So i want to start using my bogner 1x12 (with cl-80's) with my Herbert live along with my Diezel 4X12. What i need to know is the correct ohmage for using both cabinets.

The Diezel is the old 4X12 Salt and pepper cab with the custom eminence speakers
The other is a bogner 1X12 with celestian cl-80's (16 ohms)

I dont want to blow the 1X12. will it handle it? and how should i plug it in the proper load?

Thanks a million!!

The bogner is DEFINITELY 16 ohms
The diezel is (i believe) 8 ohms.. Its the old cabinet (salt and pepper grill)

Someone feel free to correct me if I am wrong.

If both cabs are 16 ohms, run them on 8 ohms each.

If both are 8 ohms run them on 4 ohms each.

If they are mismatched impedance, it is usually not recommended to run them together.

both into the 4 Ohm out - thats the "1x4 or 2x8" Ohm labbeled out.

Wow! 4 ohm input for my 16ohm cabinet..?

1/16 + 1/8 = 1/16 + 2/16 = 3/16
16/3 = 5,3333 Ohm

Thats why you use the 4 Ohm tap (=2x8 Ohm, OT leads are wired in parallel).

I stand corrected. So this is perfectly safe for the head?

This is the first time anyone has been able to make me understand how that Ohm stuff works!

Ok.. So last night i plugged both of the speakers into the 4 ohm outputs of the herbert and 2 things happened. 1 good and 1 bad...:

1. The sound out of the 1X12 was so smooth and warm i just could have died and gone to heaven.
2. There seemed to be quite a loss of total VOLUME comming out between the two cabinets. (I feel like when i just have the 2 8ohm outs in my diezel 4X12 alone that i get a louder volume.
Is this because of the mismatched ohmage?
The Diezel Cabinet says 16ohm/8ohm on the left and 16ohms on the right.
THe Bogner is 16 ohms.
Should i have tried going out of both 8ohm outputs in the Herbert?

Thats normal. The cab/speaker with the higher impedance produces less volume. Physically "normal". If you want equal volumes you need to use equal impedances.

Same here, before I just "applied" it without thinking about it
Thank you Olaf.
You should teach us mathematics

Yes, but should i use the two 8 ohm outs? Thats what im confused about . I used the two 4 ohm outs before and i really was struggling for volume.

Use the two 4 Ohm outs. You have a total impedance of 5.3 Ohm. With the 4 Ohm outs you have the smallest mismatch. With the two 8 Ohm outs you would have a bigger mismatch - and you would also hear the same volume difference.
