I'm doing a blind test here and I would like your guys opinion. I have 3 differing guitar tones that I am trying to decide which sounds best. I have my opinion, but I would like your opinion. I am not going to tell you what I did differently to them other than there are different speaker options for each. A single SM57 was used to record each take. They are double tracked and panned hard L and R.

It's the same guitar, and same EG5 / poweramp setup for each. Only difference is the speaker!

Let the polling begin! You can help me pick the speakers for my cab!!! I wonder if anyone can guess what I did w/ each! :D

The clips are different volumes, so it makes it slightly harder to be completly unbiased, normally we tend to default to the slightly louder clips as it seems to have something more.

they all sound great actually, really hard to pick cause non of them are wrong, but I like clips 2 and 3 best.

Yeah. I exported them all really quick. Tried to get them all the same level, but the third is just a little louder than the other 2.

I was just going to say, to me the perceived volume increase from 2, 1, 3. I went with which one I thought was loudest. 2seemed further behind in the mix almost. I'd be happy with 1 or 3, but 3 seemed fuller but maybe it was just louder.

I couldn't discern any big difference in lead tone between them.

Ah, thats a good thing to point out. The only thing that was changed was the main rhythm tone.

Very cool Eric. Heres my take on it, 1 sounds a lot like your original recording that you posted months ago which was using the 75's IIRC. 2 sounds a little flatter and more sizzly, I would guess that that might be the CL80's. Clip 3 DEFINITELY sounds like you blended multiple speaker types. My first impression was that it was just 1&2 mixed together, but its hard to tell with the volume difference. Either way, 3 sounds fuckin' huge! It also sounds more complex than the other two, its thicker and bigger sounding. I dig!

EDIT: One third, fourth, and fifth listen   I am definitely hearing clip 3 as 1 and 2 mixed together. Im also not sure if its the 75 or the 100 thats bringing in all the thump, but its definitely one of the two.

3 sounded more open and with good bass mid and treble coming threw, don't think that was a volume issue just better to my ears! Both 1 and 2 were lacking what 3 has !!!They all sounded good but 3 was killa!!!Don't need no more Gas

Well...Vaitel, you hit the nail right on the head! :) #1 is my original recording w/ T75's. #2 is w/ CL80s. #3 is CL80s and T75s. Funny thing is, it is just 1 mic on each. Just the SM57 pointed directly at the cone / dustcap for each take. The CL80's REALLY REALLY compliment the T75s really well. I threw 2 CL80s in my Marshall 4x12 in an X Pattern with my T75s, and holy shit man. It brings the thump! The thump really comes from both speakers. The low low end thump from the T75s, and the low mid grind from the CL80s. The upper mid-range from the T75s, and the sparkle top end from the CL80s. I really am digging it. It's caused me to put in another order for a Grendel Dead Room, so I can track with 2-speakers at a time.

I tried all sorts of combinations yesterday. V30s, T75s, K100s, ET65s, Hellatone 60Ls, CL80s and the CL80 / T75s really matched very very very well. I still have a 2x12 that the K100s KILL in. I'm finding that the K100s are a bit too much for a 4x12 for me at least. The bring the thunder, but a bit too much for me. (And I LOVE the low end punch and thunder too :) ). They work best in a 2x12. The CL80 / T75 combo I posted here is similar to what tone the K100s provide. The CL80 / T75 combo is a bit "bigger sounding" through the mids, but the K100s have a tighter punch on the bottom end. It'll be interesting to hear the Elite 80's in my 4x12 w/ the T75s. I should have the set I got off of ebay early next week!!!

I'm definitely VERY VERY happy with it. Here's #3 in the mix:

Those Eggie 2x12s are just BEGGING for you to put a T75 in there :).

I agree man! :)

I'm SOOOOOO loving my tone with this setup.

3 sounds to have more presence and sits better in the mix. But I dont know if thats because its a little louder... Otherwise, Id say 1. 2 sounds a little dark for my taste.

They all sound good enough to go with, so if it were me I'd go with the combo that gives me the biggest grin on my face while playing, feel in other words, go with the one that feels good. Because really they all sound pretty awesome.

Hands down #3 sounds best to my ears.
Not sure if the rhythm guitar was recorded a little louder than the other two clips but the rhythm guitar sits better in the mix.

I have a couple of 16 ohm WGS BL 80 speakers that I got from Eric awhile ago and have never used if anyone is interested :D Now back to the poll....

Hmmm... hard one... I really don't get very excited about the first and second tracks, but the third one fits my taste better. It sounds good in the full mix to!

+1

Track 2 sounded more mid-range filled to me. 1 and 3 were very similar but 3 was filled out just a bit more.
