Speakers to mix with C90s and EV? (NOT V30s...)

As some of you know- I am completely over Celestion Vintage30s. I had to sell my cab that had a quartet of them in it. Was a great cab, but that's over with now.

Anyway I have an old metal grille Mesa/Boogie-style 4x12 that has a C90 Black Shadow and an EV 12S 200 watt speaker in it.

What speakers could you recommend that would blend well with them? I would like a relatively dark sound but with some punch and crunch. Must have a tight bottom end, no flappiness.
Must work well with my ol' single channel Marshall JCM 800, as well as my Mesa/Boogie MarkIV.

I prefer 8 ohm speakers.

Thanks.

I run a Royal Atlantic combo with a C90 and a V30. I've recorded both speakers together and separately. The C90 is great clean, but not so great with some of my higher gain, British style overdrive sounds. Yet, when recorded with the V30, it sounds amazing. I've also recorded each half of my combo with the G12-T75 in my Rivera Silent Sister. The T75 is another great sounding speaker at loud volumes with the C90. The sound is definitely darker, since the upper-midrange isn't as pronounced. The T75 also loses that top end sizzle artifact that is present with V30s.

Personally though, I like the cut of the V30/C90 combination when I'm playing with my band. It produces a very full sound and I feel like the C90 very subtly smooths out some of the nasty top end of the V30, especially with British-styled, upper-midrange amps.

To sum, I say try the T75/C90 mix. They are also fairly affordable speakers and pair nicely with your Marshall.

I'm actually trying to sell a pair of G12T-75s at a local music shop!

I pulled them out of a 'new' Marshall 1960 cab ages and ages ago- they sat on the table for a while then I took them to the shop to sell off. I haven't really heard what they sound like, since I pulled them out. I guess I could give them another go. Thanks for the suggestion.

I run a C90 with an EVM12L in my home made 2x12 cab (based on a Rectifier 2x12 horizontal cab) and it absolutely destroys with my Mark IV. Wouldn't know with a Marshall though.

Maybe a G1265 or ET65? Seems like a good fit with it's smooth highs, crunchy mids and tight lows. Those speakers love Marshalls as well.

If you can find one a SRO EV mixes beautifully with a 12L. And you can try ceramic or alnico to taste. Massive tone, you get a greenback type vibe from the SRO - at least to my ears.

+1 I have tried my mesa Mark IVA through my Marshall 212 with WGS ET-65's it works well. I also have a mesa halfback 412 with 2 MC90's and to EV's (both sections closed). My Marshall 2553 sounds really good through the Mesa cab, but I like it best with the ET65's. Alternatively I prefer my Mark IVA through the Mesa 412. I have never tried the Mesa 412 with the 212 though, so I don't know how they all blend.

I repaired a 2 channel JCM800 recently and ran it through the 212 with the ET-65's, it sounded very nice. I would start there.

Hmmmm...!

I hope the ET-65s are cheap. Thanks for the suggestion.

I have that exact same cab,it sounds pretty bright until it's cranked,I'm letting a friend use it now and he put a pair of K100's in it and it sounds pretty good now,a little dark for my taste.
But......

I ended up ordering a pair of ET-65s...can't wait for them to arrive!

Thanks everyone for your suggestions.
