What about an SLX? or SX?

Seems like the GNR mod would sound killer plexi-ish on the SL.

THoughts?

I asked Jeff about this in a thread a while back when the GNR was
hitting its stride. IIRC, he didn't seem too impressed with the outcome.

It could...but I don't think a mod needs to be done to the SL. It's pretty damn killer as it is...at least IMHO.

I can see why the "X" mod wouldn't work on the SL.

It's so open, and uncompressed to being with, and right off the bat, has more detail and bite than the SL2... the "X" mod might just make it too brittle and bitey.

have you done this with any reportable results?

Jeff Hilligan wrote: I did the same mod to a Sl. It is pretty much a completely different circuit so it doesn't do the same thing. It's a plexi with more grit and tighter low end. Still an SL and not the GnR to my ears.

+1 here man. Really the SL2 is the best for the GNR mod...as well as the BMAN if you want it to be an in between of a SL and stock BMAN.

bruce and jeff already have a mod to tighten up the e-rect..

Like the amazing, original EG5 prototype. It was called "X".

It's the mod that changed my life.

I was thinking of making it more punchy in the midrange as well as tightening the lows - perhaps more like a Stiletto sound wise...

But didnt Mesa make the Stiletto to try to sound like a Marshall? So, wouldnt SL2X work for that even better?

That's what I thought, too. I recall Andy Timmons being involved in the R&D of the series II
and the benchmark (so I've heard) was his late 70s JMP - total SLX territory.

I'll let you know when i get my SL2X from Perttu...

But I really don't think of my Stiletto as a Marshall kind of amp... Got a more fluid kind of drive and some Recto flavours as well... (I'm talking about the hi gain channel)
