So I fired up my Splawn Competition tonight and found it really really lacking umph. I plugged my Roccaforte HG100 into the same Splawn 2x12 cab and it just killed it. I mean I could get it kinda Splawn like if I totally backed off the Bass and put the Mid around 9-10 oclock and the treble around 1:00. Presence was around 12 oclock. The Splawn seemed less stiff and was easier to play but I dug the Rocca so much more. It just has something more about it. It doesn't have the hair of the Splawn but I could boost it just a little and get it there. Just my take on some amps. I know Splawns are a love/hate and Roccaforte's are pretty much all hate around here from what I have seen.

I have always dug Roccaforte amps!!! Have owned a Custom 80, Custom 18 combo and one of Marc Ford's actual DDRS heads he used on "Freak and Roll." Selling that DDRS is one of my biggest regrets!!!!

Yeah I guess hate was strong! Don't see much talk about them here. He is one of the best builders out there IMHO. I have a HG100, Custom 40 and Custom 18. They are all awesome amps.

Digging my Jenelle -

What speakers are you finding work best with the HG100?

Here is a photo of my Rocca Custom 30. This one is based on a jcm800. Sounds great.

I owned a Custom 40 and loved it. Had a very raw Hiwatt/Marshall vibe that was unique. I'd never speak badly of that amp.

Yeah, nothing wrong with Roccaforte amps. The builder is a little.....eccentric.

My HG 100 sounds awesome! My Bogner 2x12 is a good match with it as well. I haven't spent too much time with a Splawn, but I enjoyed playing a Quick rod and Pro mod that a friend owned. The Roccaforte is a great amp that works for me.

Good to see some Fellow Rocca lovers. I know Laura ( Valve Queen ) had some too. I like my greenbacks with the HG100 but last night I played it through the Splawn 2x12 with smallblocks. Sounded pretty damn good.

I played what I think was a HG100 a long time ago and it was pretty mushy but I've heard many clips where that wasn't the case. Maybe bad tubes?. I've always wanted to try some of the amps, especially the Custom 40 or 80. I got to say though, aesthetically they are not a good looking amp. The Head-shell always looked ugly to me. The faceplate is also a little plain. Now inside, they're beautiful.

Another Rocca owner here, Custom 40.
Works great with M75 Scumbacks

Had a Custom 80,Jenelle and still have the HG100
Once again,it's just massive LOUD.
Definatly loves Scumbacks M75 and H75 loaded 4x12's

Also gets alone with a stock Marshall 1960 4x12
and a 2x12 w/Scum blackbacks

Really? I really llike the look of my Jenelle inside and out. The stainless steel grills, logo and faceplates. I think are a killer touch.

Taking your opinions too guys, I'll have to try this badboy out with some Scums.

I always hated the generic font he used for the nameplate too. Would still love to demo some though.

Is Doug still building amps? His site doesn't really have any public content and there's an artist login there.

So.....you plugged into two different amps and one killed the other but they kinda sounded the same. The killed one has more hair but the other one had "more". You liked one more than the other and that is your take on amps.
Got it.

The dude is M.I.A. :dunno: Some guy on another forum had talked about a mid-boost mod that Doug had done to his HG100 and he said it was incredible sounding. I emailed Doug a few times trying to get some info about that and a couple of other things..and nothing.
Bob, you did a demo or two for the guy right? What gives?

Ultra Sound have some though - http://www.ultrasoundampsales.com/misc.php

Always liked JMart's clips of his HG - https://www.soundclick.com/bands/default ... tent=music

Looks like Doug is still making stuff but it seems unless you are an Artist (famous) he doesn't respond. I emailed him about my HG100 too and nothing.
