whats up guys. i fiddled around with recording these two amps together for the first time the past couple of days and finally got a mix that i'm happy with.

the track is "Splawn Nitro + QR - Holy Diver (no fx loop)" at the top: https://www.soundclick.com/bands/default ... dID=358837

here's the setup: Splawn Nitro (Right) and Quickrod (Left - harmonies), each panned 75% to each side for rythym parts, 30% for solo parts. The Nitro was loaded w/ JJ KT77s in OD1 and the QR w/ SED -=C=- EL34s in OD2. Both were in 50 watt mode, master volume ~9:00, gain ~3:00. The Nitro was mic'ed w/ a single sm57 through an Eminence Govenor while the QR was mic'ed through a Splawn Small Block25. Guitar used was an ESP Horizon NTII w/ Duncan Custom pickup. No effects or post EQ other than panning.

sorry if this track is overplayed. i really like the song though.

I've heard a ton of quickrod clips. Would love to hear the Nitro. I owend a Comp. It was wayyy to bright for my tastes. I read that the Nitro is suppsed to be more saturated with an enphais in the lower mids right? Youtube videos haven't really been clear enough for me to hear a major difference between the Nitro and other Splawn amps. Maybe a little but...

Yea, the Nitro is voiced much darker than the QR. For this clip I dialed the bass on the Nitro was down to mesh with the QR well. If you check my sig, there are tons of Nitro clips. The second link has a lot of Nitro vs QR comparisons.

Seems that everybody wants to play the KSE version of this song now. :aww:

Nice clip and playing :2thumbsup:

Is that your own version of Holy Diver or the KSE one? i only heard the KSE one once.

How is the fx loop trick working for you keeping the volume down and the tone up?

the fx loop trick is great for getting really really low volume that is still warm. running the master real low w/o the loop tricks makes the tone a bit thinner and it just doesn't have that warmth. it's not until about 8:30 on the master when the amp begins to open up, but at this volume it's a bit louder than say tv volumes. there is no substitute for turning up the amp but the fx loop trick is a great compromise for getting good tone late at night.

Cool. I'll definately have to try it on mine when I get it. Should be next week.

great sound! i can hear why everybody is rambling about these splawn amps...too bad that they are not available over here...

The Splawn loop is not tube buffered, it's solid state driven. If you turn it on at really low volumes it adds high end and sounds quite harsh and unpleasant sounding. This will go away when you get the amp up to jamming volumes.

I don't use the loop at all for low volume home recording situations, since I add all the effects through the software plugins.

But if you are the type of home player that will primarily use the amp at very low volumes, and you need effects through the loop, you'll need to employ one of the many tricks that are talked about on the various forums to cope with it.

The fx loop trick fixes this. You turn the master up to like around 9:00 and then use the volume pedal to bring everything down to low volumes. With the master turned up, you don't have the thin/harsh problem anymore. Everything sounds very warm and full, but now the volume is really low. It's not like a powersoak or anything but something in the circutry of the amp allows for this trick to work with great results.
