Splawn QR volume. Potential issue?

Greetings from Canada.

I bought a used 2019 Quickrod with KT88s SN QR1192330. Sounds great. One thing I’ve noticed is that without the loop master activated, it is much quieter than my 50 watt 2204 and 100 watt 5153. Is this just the design and taper of the master volume? Also, The clean channel seems to get much louder than the gain channel.

I mean it can still get gig loud! I’m running both into a Suhr Reactive load to do quad cortex captures. I pretty much need to crank the QR volume and it still won’t get where my 2204 is on half….same with the EVH so I need to boost the signal via the QC so the captures will all have unity volume.

I believe everything is working properly as all power valves are lit up and test around 460V. Just want to be sure all is 100 percent perfect.

Thanks!

Hey bro. Good to see you here. Let me see who we can round up.

Thanks! I think I’m going to take it in to get looked at regardless but I’m still interested in hearing opinions.

NP.

I gave you my thoughts on the splawn proboard crickets forum. But why not use the Loop Master? Regardless, there should be a parity point whether it is engaged or not. And did you mean, "Is this just the design and taper of the Channel Volume?"

Hoping @harddriver or @Fusionbear or @glpg80 sees this.

I have the same amp with EL34s. Your issue is not normal. I always use the loop master to control the amps volume. If I turn off the loop the amp is stupid loud at 1 or 2 on the channel volume. Probably get it checked out. Good luck.

Sometimes the Jack's in the loop board can get dirty and could cause volume loss. I haven't looked at the guts of my Quickrod in a while to see if it is a true bypasses not. If it is a true bypass, something else must be up. You will need a 1k sine wave feed into the amp and see where you are losing amplitude in the circuit to troubleshoot. I'm going to a little research right now and report back shortly..

Thanks all. This is my suspicion as well. I’ll clean the loop jacks but I’m assuming it wouldn’t be a consideration if the loop is bypassed

So does the amp only have a volume issue with the loop master activated ? Is the loop master volume pot cranked all the way up when you activate it ?

Thanks for the reply. With/without the loop master activated. And even with loop master cranked it’s destroyed volume wise by my 50 watt 2204

Check or swap out v2 preamp tube. This is the 1st tube stage for the overdrive channel. V1 is the 1st tube stage for the clean channel, this might explain the clean being louder. Both channels share v3 and v4 tubes.

Gotcha , I figured you had that part sorted out but just thought I`d ask

Greetings fellow canuck .. Where in Canadiana are you?

Regarding the Loop issue, is anything plugged into the issue? do you experience this issue with nothing plugged into the loop? how about changing the signal setting from +4/-10db?

Cheers
