I have a Marshall Super Lead w/ the Metro Board and PPIMV (post phase inverted master volume) This thing SCREAMS. You can get a ton of gain out of it and keep it at low volumes.

Im about to get rid of my JVM and my SLP and get a brand spankin new Quickrod and Splawn cab.

How will the Quickrod compare to my SLP?

The Splawn is voiced differently then the other amps you have listed imo, the Splawn has more bottom end and gain than your SLP that is for sure.

The past 3 amps ive had and Ive REALLY liked all of them...

Diezel Einstein
JVM
SLP

and I really like them due to the fact they were more "open" sounding and not so compressed like rectos and whatnot.

Basically, if I like that sort of stuff, will I like this amp?

What type of voicing does the QR have? comparable to something?

QuickRod is very open, great note articulation. More upper mids than most amps, pretty aggressive. A lot like a good modded JMP or JCM800. Plenty of gain for me, I stick to Gear 1 OD1 most of the time, although Gears 2 & 3 have a better low end.

I'l pretty much echo what was already said
The QR will have way more gain and bottom end then your Metro and a way different midrange freequency then any Marshall amp Ive played. It can get ice picky with certain settings but that definitely can be controlled by using your ears to dial in the tone.
Funny that you should mention the QR because LordToneking just posted a clip using his QR. You should check it out!

I def will when I get home, right now at work = no speakers :(

Im kinda pumped cuz im getting a BRAND new rig, straight from Splawn, with the Splawn 4x12. Its the black head w/clear lexan front and the black 4x12 w/ salt & pepper grille. WOOP WOOP!!

As far as having more gain than my SLP, that would be hard to do because of the PPIMV on the amp...

I can CRANK the front of the amp and adjust the master from the back. This SLP has insane gain, you can play in a hard rock/metal band with it.

Did you add an extra gain stage? What exactly do you have going on on your Metro board if you dont' mind sharing.

+1 Also do you boost it?

I have a 1971 s/l that has a PPIV MV and has been modded by Dave Bray for more gain and it doesn't have as much gain as a QR! If you are telling me that your amp has plenty of gain on tap then it must have an added gain stage!! A PPIV MV does add gain but not at the level of a QR.

Either something was done to the amp or we have different views on what a lot of gain!!!

All the best!

Nope..its just the fact that you can turn the front of the amp up pretty much all the way, giving you the saturation, and you can control it from the back

Im pretty sure it doesnt have an added gain stage, as far as the QR having more gain, Im SURE it does, but as far as a LOT of gain, my idea of a lot of gain basically boils down to "usable gain". For instance, a Dual Recto has only 40%-50% USABLE gain on the amp, anything over that is just too much and sounds like doo doo. The SLP has juuuuuust enough.

This cracked me up...  That used to be my amp, no added gain stages or anything. I liked the amp a hell of a lot but I did boost it on top of everything else. I think people have a different view on gain. Now the Einstein...that has too much gain!!!

A boost on top of this thing? Holy hell man! lol...this thing roars as it is!

I agree with the term "usable gain", I've owned and played amps with lots of gain but not a lot of usable or variable gain. I thought channels 3 & 4 on the JVM had a lot of gain but very little usable adjustment in that gain. The QuickRod has a lot of usable gain. With the gain on 9 o'clock it is totally different than the gain at 10:30, which is different from the gain at Noon, etc...

I tend to prefer lower gain stuff, even for my higher gain stuff, if that makes sense. I stay mostly on Gear 1 of the QuickRod. But with 3 gears and an OD1 and OD2 on those 3 gears you can achieve 6 different gain settings.

I like milder amps with the gain high, and a guitar with hot p/u's.

For instance, my SLP which is not a "high gain amp", with the gain almost all the way up, and my ESP Eclipse with EMG's, it sounds like a fucking flamethrower

I think you'd like the QuickRod a lot then, it never enters the Diezel/Engl/Mesa type of modern super high gain area, it's much more rooted in the sounds of the 80's modded Marshalls.

Just be sure to experiment with the tone controls and set them with your ears and not your eyes. On Gear 1 I run the Treble OFF and boost the Bass and cut the Mids below Noon, dial in highs with the Presence and it sounds great. Turning the Treble off doesn't darken the amp much but it thickens the sound a lot. I found that settings that sound great on the QuickRod wouldn't work on a lot of other amps.

How ya doin Chad? I do use low output pickups...I use to use emg's and they have a boost of their own. Did you sell your head rack case yet?

Yeah I sure did, funny thing is, I sold it for like 350 and it cost me 145 to ship it. LOL.

What kind of speakers are you going to get in your Splawn cab? My friend Amplifire had a Splawn 4x12 loaded with...i think...2 Eminence speakers are 2 other speakers, either ManOwar's or Govenor's. I don't remember. But i thought that cab sounded like shit, he did to, and so did Robotechnology. We played a Marshall 4x12 loaded with 65's right next to it and the Marshall cab killed the Splawn cab. I think it was juts the speakers and I'm sure the Splawn cab would sound great with some Greenbacks. I remember with the QR on that Splawn 4x12 it was like an ice-pick to my head. The QR sounded much better on other cabs.
