I'm debating between these two amps right now and can't seem to make up my mind. I'm playing playing in a metal band that has kind of a Torche / Deftones / Coliseum vibe going on. I've owned the SS-100 and the BE-100 before and really liked them, but never the JJ-100. Any words of wisdom from owners? Thanks!

I love my SS100 & believe it's the best amp out there.
I've only played the JJ for around 10 mins so can't talk about it with any real authority.
If it helps, the SS has the most amazing clean channel & the dirty channel is stunningly warm

Deftones - thunderous low mids and some compression come to mind.

Not sure either amp is going to get you there - Steph's a big Fractal member now - hard to say.

Can't speak about the tones from Torche or Coliseum.

I love Steph, he's such a cat...

SS100 or JJ100 you can't go wrong. I bought the SS, and put a deposit on the signed JJ a couple weeks later. No way i could pass up either

Played a SS last week along with a Bogner 20th Shiva and a couple others.
While I'm a sucker for the touchy-feely depth and response of the Bogners, the SS is plug and play and it sounds amazing!
Amazing clean for a channel switcher and vintage to somewhat modern gain tones. No fussing with controls or anything, just play and enjoy. All of the Friedman stuff just rips and has a great feel. Dave's amps just sound "right".

As far as Stephtones, I think the key is layering, using a bit less gain than you think you need and obviously the baritone scale and tunings. The SS could probably get there with some effects added.

I'll second that, I love the ease of use, the amps just work, no futzin around! I've got a Dirty Shirley, Small Box, and Buxom Betty, but been REALLY thinking about that SS-100 the last few months.

I owned the SS, still have the JJ. I like the clean channel on the JJ better than the SS, seems to have more mojo going on, vox-ish maybe vs. the SS sounding more Blackface-ish. I also like the JBE mode better for over the top metal tones, vs. what the SS does when it's gained out with the boost. The core sound of the SS is great though, and I like it better than the BE channel on the JJ for classic rock and 80s metal. I also have the small box but if I didn't have it I'd probably still have the SS.
