Dear all,

What are the standard power tubes currently in a VH4?

Jan

MARK2C stated the latest recommended standard power tubes for a VH4.

They've also had 6550's in them before as 'standard stock' tubes, but due to heat issues and consistency problems, Diezel HQ reverted to the safer Ruby tube. Some users still prefer the 6550's over the EL34's, and accept the fact that they may need to replace tubes more often for sake of getting what's to them a better tone.

Just sayin',
V.

In 1999 my first VH4 came with JJ 6L6GC, in 2000 My second VH4 came with JJ 6L6GC, but Peter converted it to EH EL34's and did a presence
mod. My third VH4 in 2003 came with Ruby EL34's and my current 2007 VH4 came with Ruby EL34B's. I switched over to 6550's when Diezel made the change
in mid/late 2008 to 6550's, but the official "New" tube was supposed to be JJ KT-77. For the record, the best tone to my ears is SED 6550's, but Poppa does not
recommend them for "heat" reasons.

my vote...

No, not at all, really...I wouldn't DO such a thing... I'm not gonna get whooped by Poppa for sticking my neck out. I'm just saying, there was a time where the 6550's were stock, and, INTERESTINGLY enough, I actually like 'em the best out of the tubes out there :D

2 cents, nothing more, nothing less...
V.
