Hello everyone,

Lately I've been hearing a Static/Cracking noise coming from the Amp when it is in the "Run" position.

-The noise doesn't change with Volume. It is only noticeable at "bedroom" levels.

-I've tried different outlets around the house to see if it a Electrical issue. No change.

- Tried different Speaker and Patch cables. No luck.

My best guess it is probably a PreAmp tube issue. This is my first time owning a Tube Amplifier. I've had the Amp for about 4 months. It looks easy enough to switch out preamp tubes. That being said, is there anything I should be aware of before hand before I switch out any tubes. Or, is there anything else I should trouble shoot before I go and buy some new tubes.

Thanks for taking the time to read and any insight would be very appreciated!

Most likely a tube, but the problem tube could also potentially be a power tube.

I had the same problem a few years ago. There was an intermittent faint static/crackling sound and I suspected It was a bad preamp tube, and sure enough, it was. I still wouldn't rule out power tubes though, at least pre tubes are a little cheaper.

Check the preamp tube sockets. Make sure they haven't expanded, if they have close them up a bit for better connection to the tubes.

remember, before doing anything, please unplug the amplifier!!!!!!!

With the amp running, turn the master volume all the way down. If you still hear the crackling it most probably is a bad power tube.
