Step Down Transformer ?

So I made an offer on a Herbert and should've read the 'fine print' lol , saying it needs a step down transformer to work ...So it's a UK version as it turns out (if he would've listed it as such I probably wouldn't have made an offer.
But let me ask you fellas ? Would it stop you from buying it ? Is it 'not a big deal' ? Or something that could be problematic later on ? Can a local tech change it out easily ?
Need some feedback cause i haven't actually paid for it yet.
Thanks Fellas 🙏

Assuming you´re american you need a step-up, not a step-down. A step-down/step-up transformer is an outboard unit, not a mod to the amp itself. With that said, a 180W amp probably has a pretty big current draw and probably needs a substantial transformer in the 1000W capacity range. Probably set you back a couple hundred, but it´s nothing to worry about later. It´s common here in Europe to run US voltage stuff with them.

Sometimes the transformer in the amp can be rewired for different voltages, if this is the case with the Herbert you do need a tech that knows their way around power supplies.

I ran into something similar with an Engl E580 preamp that I bought from someone in Europe. Bought a transformer to convert my US voltage to the 220/240 it wanted. Not a big deal really. For me, it was more a matter of the inconvenience of having something extra to haul to the gig.

It's possible the power transformer that's in the amp can be reconfigured for other voltages. If that's the case, it'd be fairly simple for a tech to switch it over. Otherwise, it's a matter of replacing the power transformer with one that has the voltages you need.

Personally, I wouldn't want to deal with having to carry around a step up transformer box everywhere I went, especially if I were gigging a lot. Just one more thing to have to think/worry about. Also, if you go to sell the amp here, it's going to turn a lot of people off and possibly hurt resale value/ability.

I've never been inside a Diezel, but it's a pretty safe bet the tranny has a 120v tap

That's definitely my primary concern for sure ..
