Stereo rig mics - ribbon vs. second cardioid?

I've been playing in stereo lately and would like to start recording this way as well. I'm running a Mesa Mark V into a Mesa 2x12 and a Marshall DSL20 into a Marshall 1x12. I already have an SM57 for one cabinet, but need to get a mic for the second cabinet. Do I want a ribbon mic to pair with my SM57 or do I want another cardioid mic? My budget can be up to 400, which is where the sE VR1 comes in. I've been looking at the Sennheiser e906 as the other cardioid mic.

I perused through this thread - https://www.rig-talk.com/forum/thre...or-electric-guitar-to-compliment-a-57.241924/
And this older one - https://www.rig-talk.com/forum/thre...ith-sm57-for-recording-guitars-at-home.76202/

But still felt compelled to make my own thread - sorry and thanks lol.

I wouldn’t go with a mic that is so different for a stereo image. It can work well when blending on a mono signal. Otherwise you’ll be doing a lot of work trying to EQ the other side to compensate for how different the other mic is responding. Honestly, probably get something that’s very much like the 57, if not just another 57.

i agree with this

Didn't think about that at all @skoora - thanks.
And forgot about the MD-421, which was also on my radar. Appreciate that suggestion @ChuggNorris
I'm all over the place with this purchase as opposed to just getting one and trying it. I don't want to buy a third microphone until I feel like I absolutely need one and I think anything I buy now will accomplish what I need. I'll just be cost conscious and grab the 906.

You said you have a d2 and d3, I would just use those and see what’s up. The D2 is my favorite on guitars

I'd be looking at the 421, or an SM7. Someone was posting close mic'ed clips here the other day and had the 57/SM7 combo. I was impressed. I've used the SM7 for vocals before and they are a solid, quality vocal mic as well so you can get pretty good double duty out of it. The 421 works great on toms and was a pretty standard vocal mic before SM58's came along so you can't go wrong with either of those.

This is the right answer.

I think I’ma go with the e906. It’s only 180 and it gets me away from experimenting with a ribbon. Thanks guys.
