String retainer bar

Could someone with a Floyd'd guitar measure the distance between the string retainer bar and the nut?
I have to install one and i am not in the mood to screw it up

Also, how tight to i screw this thing down?

In case the image isn't clear, I measured between the end of the nut and the beginning of the retainer bar. It's 7/16''. Only make it tight enough so it just touches the strings when they're installed. If you make it too tight, it can be a pain to properly stretch/tune your guitar. If it's too loose, the strings will just go sharp/flat a bit more once you clamp the nut.
