A couple weeks ago I bought a ticket to see Tool a week from today. A few days ago they sent me an email saying the seat was not available (wtf?) but they were going to upgrade my seat to a lower level and to call. So I call and after several failed attempts they say that seat isn't available either and they will call me back. Finally I get another email saying to call about the ticket. This time they successfully move my seat but it's not an upgrade like before it just moves me a couple sections over. Then they say I'll get the ticket on 2/7...one day before the show. Just give me the fucking ticket already!

After all the fees they charge you'd think they'd have it down to a science but it's just a clusterfuck. Can't be that hard.

It also appears Ticketmaster is somehow connected...I should have known. Ticketmaster sucks donkey.

Why do i feel like companies can't get anything right these days?

Oh yeah, events and tickets for them are arranged these days by few same companies globally. Enjoy having to deal with the BS where ever you're living in.

Is because the asshats selling on StubHub list elsewhere and are too lazy or slow to update their other listings when they sell their tickets. It doesn’t matter the platform, the rotten sellers use them all.

These resellers ruin everything!!!

The concert ticket business is seriously screwed up. Not sure what the fix is. Seems like there is just so much money out there. I love music but I'm not paying hundreds or thousands for tickets to see a show. But apparently others will pay that?

That's fine, yay free market, but it sure would seem better to get that money to the band rather than some dude on Stubhub (or Ticketmaster). That should be a huge problem but I guess the bands don't have the leverage or the credibility to just charge the high ticket price from the get go?

The fix is put a name on the ticket when purchased. The person entering has to match the name on the ticket. If something happens and you can’t go, you sell the ticket back to the original entity. It sucks, but that’s how you get rid of the scalpers.

But if people want to pay $2000 for a Pearl Jam ticket, shouldn't Pearl Jam just charge that and get the money? I don't see why the tickets instead are just sold for $200 or whatever and then scalped. As you say, you can sell for $200 and then just eliminate the resale market, but that seems like an unusual way to go about it. Just sell it for closer to the actual street value up front.

Then the ticket that sold for $2000 for will be scalped for $5000

Then Pearl Jam (or whoever) should charge $5k for the ticket? At some point people just won't pay a scalp price and then the scalper market won't exist naturally.

I think the monkey wrench in the whole thing is fake tickets and how many there can be.

I think you might be underestimating the stupidity of people with disposable income. Have you noticed gear prices lately?

That doesn’t change supply and demand.

What venue? I'm wondering if a Covid mandate F'ed up seating capacity at your venue.

Also, in response to other commenters here.... the title does say "Stub Hub kind of sucks"

Amway Center in Orlando, FL.

The COVID rules aren't clear to me either. I'm not sure if I need a negative test. I am vaxed. I have a home test that expires soon so maybe I'll just do it and take a picture next to a cell phone with the date displayed. I just had COVID so I'm not that worried about getting it now.
