Lets see, I pretty much haven't really made much progress on guitar for awhile now, thinking I should take lessons since time is a issue and I just end up doodling around on the guitar when I play.

So what do you look for in a instructor? Also what are good rates for southern california (orange county) per hour? Anyone able to recommend a good instructor also in Orange County?

Curt (chubtone) may know of a good instructor in O.C.

Hmm trying out a Free Trial Lesson this Saturday, his rates are $39 per hour, $22 per half hour, those rates reasonable?

I guess that depends on the teacher. If he's teaching you the goods, that seems fair. Then again I don't know what the going rates are these days. Where did you find this teacher?

Was just browsing around the net, I think I found him on craigslist   , its a free trial lesson so I thought I might as well try it.

Here is his site. http://www.markwein.com/

Located in Orange right off Katella I think on the 5.

I'm open to any other suggestions/referals

Thats a decent price if hes a great player and teacher. Otherwise, I would pass. There are tons of guys who teach lessons out there that are monster players.

What actually constitutes to a good instructor, I know what a bad one is   and that was my last one I had 2 years ago, haven't really met a good one so I am not sure what makes a good one. What should they be teaching mainly?

For free I guess it's worth giving it a shot.

What do you want out of your playing? Do you want to be a good all round player? Different styles? Do you want to be pushed hard or just want some help getting where you're already going? Do you want to develop your technique and theory knowledge? Do you learn better having someone bust your ass and expect too much from you or someone who lays back and guides you?

You need to pick the right instructor for your playing level and attitude. If they are qualified, it is not so much good or bad as just what works for you.
