Hearing/Playing one of these in person is where it’s at. Doug is an amazing player and does incredible demos but you NEED to experience this thing for yourself to really appreciate it.

Great overview of the amp. I got one and glad I bought it.
Everybody turning things up and going for VH, which is cool, but it does so much more.
My Strats kill thru it. I get any 70's era Zep, Trower, you name it, depending on how you run it. Also can be used as a pedal platform, which is what I did w/ my old Marshalls in the 70s and 80s.

I recently bought a new SL68 Mk 1 (at enough of a discount to have the Mk 2 update done for the same money all-in as a new Mk 2 so all good) and it’s an incredible amp.

It does an incredible Van Halen tone, and the squeeze-and-bloom thing it does when you crank it and hit notes hard is very unique to plexis. It has this effect of exaggerating your playing dynamics even more than most amps. Everybody should experience playing through an amp as responsive as this one, that will go from literally no distortion to full on choked out amp that’s about to explode with picking dynamics alone.

But CarlF above is right, it does a lot more than that too. It will give you the perfect shimmery overdriven strat sound you always wished Fenders would give you but almost never do. And also on that note it will give Fender cleans a run for their money too.

These amps are remarkably versatile for how simple they seem. Can’t recommend the Suhr SL series enough for anybody looking for vintage Marshall stuff.

On the current list of, “if I see one even semi local used…”

Similar story to above. Used sl67 at a great price. Loved the amp for a good amount of time.

Paid suhr and still came in under on a mark 2.

Literally can NOT get a bad sound out of it.

I've only played JMPs (Gower-mods or with EVO hotmod) and owned a 1959HW briefly so my question to the SL6X users here is, where do you go from that tone for gainier leads?
Modern, a la XTC, SLO, HBE, Boogie Mk etc. Do you hit it with a distortion vs an OD? How do you get the sustain and feel under the fingers for solos with a plexi?

I've always wanted to have a modern take on a plexi with well thought out MV and really love how Suhr hears things but always went for the CAE OD100s bc all have 'more' when it comes to an extra gain stage/ channel/ boost.

OTOH, I'd love to have a SL if I could take it beyond the trad plexi sound. If I cannot then it would be too much money for when I need "that" crunch.
From what I've heard and experienced, a stock Marshall (or take on one) would only get me to ACDC-ish lead gain levels which are lush but not my thing.
I know Eddie did it but I'm not him, obvs..

Any clues would be appreciated.
