Has anyone tried this pickup? Tried to use the search function and found a thread but it was kinda barren so i decided to make a new one.

Why this pickup? Well according to Suhr's website it should have pronounced mids and it "bridges the gap between vintage and hot" which makes me think a lower output JB maybe? What do y'all think?

I would say it would be more in a PAF range. A bit jangly! I preferred the plus version myself. Mids very similar on both. The plus was a bit more pushed with a more pleasing high end.

Edit: I miss read and was referring to the SSV line.

I've used most of the Suhr humbucker line in various guitars and i have found that the same humbucker can sound different in each guitar. I really like the SSH pickup in certain guitars. I currently have the SSH in three guitars. My Warmoth Star, my new custom Classic, and my Carve-top Modern. I like the pickup so much, I added it to the Custom Modern order I have coming to me in 2025. The pickup's voicing reminds me of the old DiMarzio distortion pups. That is, like a hot PAF...
It still cleans up really well with the volume knob and a nice mid-forward voicing.

I didn't like the pickup in two of my guitars. These two guitars are LP based. My Dean Soltero and my Ibanez SZ2020. It made those two guitars sound too dark and lifeless. I ended up with a Thornbucker II in the SZ2020 and the Dean liked the stock SSV or Aldrich hot pups much better.

I have an Aldrich in my Blue Jean Modern and it is voiced perfectly for that guitar.

I have a DSV+ in my 2007 Standard that replaced a DSH+ that was a little too hot and dark. The DSV+ is another goldilocks type pup in my opinion...

I settled on the SSH in my Carve-top Modern after a few experiments. The stock SSH+ was too dark, so I switched to a SSV+ and that was too bright and thin. The SSH was perfect! I've gigged it with the SSH several times and am super happy with the results...

Anyway, my two cents...

Thanks for the comment. Would you say that the SSH might work on an alder bodied, maple neck/fingerboard superstrat also?
