This is using my normal gear but I tried to dial in a real high mid tone rather than anything modern.

Thats just a doubled guitar track.

Heres with the actual song mixed a bit loud for a better idea.

I love bad brains tone. Gonna have to try me a Dimarzo one of these days.
Opinions?

sounded good to me !!!

Dr.Know is the shit !!!!!!!!

I saw them open for Prong back in 93 or 94

HR wasn't with them at the time ... but the guy they did have was real good

Nice. Great tone for that style. And double points for even posting a bad brains clip in the first place!

Sounds pretty good to me! I have to admit though... I never heard of Bad Brains until I became a regular on this site... who are they? I'm guessing they're an older band?

How did you get the upper mids to come out so nicely?? I remember the Hex I used to have had tons of lower mids, didn't sound a whole lot like this clip. Very cool sound!

Oh HEY people posted in my thread!

Yeah I was using a JB in a Mahogany guitar and a TC Electronic Booster with the bass and treble on zero and the volume on max.. which I assume is a midboost. When you do that the hex totally sounds like the voicing moves up. But other than that, my hex has the Global mod control which shifts the mid voicing low or high and of course I had that up as high as it goes too.

I used a recto cab which is super freakin low mid heavy too lol   Funny though, Dr. Know uses a Dual Recto now.. At least thats what I see on the youtube videos.

Thanks for checkin it out fellas.

Dude Bad Brains are one of the pioneering bands of the hardcore. They were known for their sick performances and incredible range as well as song writing.

Great album: Cool thing is, there was so much more to that band than hardcore.

It's got to be that TC Booster. I had basically the same setup, but the global knob had a different function, it sort of brought it up in the mix or buried it, sort of like what a presence knob SHOULD do? But didnt' work like a presence knob. I don't think it shifted the midrange frequencies much though. Yeah, I had a JB Les Paul, recto cab, etc... but it was an older model Hex, so maybe the circuit changed a bit.

Actually I noticed that somewhat with different tubes. I had a set of EH 12AX7 and the Global was much more active than with GT 12AX7s which have more gain. Wierd but there it is.

Their fire and energy is pretty much unmatchable. I Against I is one of the best songs I've ever heard in 30 years of listening to harder music. They have so many classic songs and their changes and breaks are unbeatable. They really brought sophistication to HC but didn't lose the flamethrower attack.

I completely agree. I really wish I had seen them in their prime but hey, they are still touring even now. I've been listening almost non stop to their stuff for the last few months. Modern music has NOTHING on this stuff thats for sure.

I dig this video a whole lot

mucho props to all for contributing to a great thread. i love the new hc shit coming out, but we all must pay hommage to the fathers of this great, and heavily under appreciated style of music.

a perfect mix of ferocity and finesse, this is how i would describe the noise the bad brains made.
