You know I've always thought these were basically like KT88s but figured I'd check.

I got 'em at 42mA right now and sound OK to me...but that'd be low for KT88s right?

The manual says 35-45mA, but I like mine in the 47-49mA range personally.

I find EH KT88s a little warmer and smoother than my Svet 6550s but your mileage may vary. The 6550s can sound glassy and brash/metallic at high volumes.

must be those celestion neos...:) i've never had "glassy / brash / metallic" tones at high volumes w/ my 6550s personally....quite the contrary..

From what I've read, and talked to other ppl that have played the Neos...metallic...stiff...and harsh / brash were comments they've made towards them.

We'll see what ppl think this weekend at the Sweetwater gig ;)

I have to agree here,no glassy and/or brash and I run the shit hot!!! :D

Actually it was through the Randall with Neos and through a TM212 with CL80s. I had both at practice. I have been trying both out to see which is the keeper. I am still on the fence. I am waiting for a T75 to arrive also.

i'm using whatever thetubestore.com stocks. those have been my favorite tube to date...

Always have been very cautious of using NOS...as it can be a BIG money pit... I've had on numerous occassions NOS tubes die quickly...and they aren't warranted. Jon @ thetubestore warrants his tubes...as does others like Dougstubes..etc.

Only NOS tube I use personally is the NOS JP 5751.
