Symphony X/Romeo + Attempts at rectifier tones

I'm still giving it my all on trying to make rectifier tones not sound like shit.

This week's attempt is a pretty spicy couple of Romeo riffs from "Evolution (The Grand Design)" played pretty badly as I am, in fact, NOT michael god damn romeo

It's really, really hard to get the palm mutes to sound "correct" and the idea was to try a challenging to engineer riff and make it sound as good as I can, even though it's not my comfort zone at all - here's my first couple attempts.

I am mixing both orange and red channels, both boosted BTW - I feel like it needs a balance of both if i'm not going to layer it with other amps. But layering other amps would be cheating, as the rectifier is my arch-nemesis.

Sounds great . What recto ?

It's multiple Kemper profiles (orange red vintage modern) of a really nice rev C my buddy Chris sent me, I trust his ear on rectos and he says that revision is probably the best sounding 🤷

I am not really great at making rectos sound their best though, so

That was pretty good. 👍

Thanks brother! I'm not super confident in either my recto tone recording OR playing Symphony X riffs, so I appreciate that :hys:
I never really liked the guitar tone of that album and what you ended up doing sounds much better. You’re leaps above me with Symphony X riffs, I think the last one I tried playing was Inferno when it came out and I was learning guitar and just quit trying, haha.

"Inferno" is one I teach guitar students to practice hand synchronization, it is ROUGH especially at speed

What speaker/cab is being emulated?

There are four different IRs - two of them are in Wall of Sound and two are from profiles/IRs ive profiled/made

1. Torpedo fane f70 to add bass to the orange modern
2. an IR I made of a UK v30 to try and smooth the red modern
3. an IR I made of a scumback bm75ld to add grind and midrange to red vintage
4. torpedo T75/marshall cab to add some grit to orange vintage

I used a different IR for each different channel/mode of the recto to try and balance shit out a little bit, but it feels like putting bandaids on shotgun wounds

I am guessing I probably would have rectifier-ed correctly by just using the v30 for everything but it sounded boring to me without the variety.

Im trying to get past the wall in my head where I take a recto tone and automatically try and turn it into a marshall tone as far as speaker and post
