I own and love my DSL 100 and use the clean and distortion channels for sound. I found by having guitars with EMG's allows me to run the bass boost and it works perfect for balancing out both of the channels and still having a great high gain to clean sound. I was thinking about picking up a 900 for a little smoother cleaner style of distortion. I'm not sure if this would benifit me or not. I think there built a little better then the 2000 series but I've had no trouble with mine, but I know sometimes build quality effects tone.. doesn't always equate to better tone though. I was also looking at a Slash head and wanting seprate clean and distortion channels.
I guess I'm looking for that Marshall vibe but something a little different..

Hey Jason,

I gigged with a 2100 SL-X (100 watter) for a little while and it was one of the better live tones I've had. A friend come up and play a few songs with the band and I got to sit in the audience and listen. I was shocked at how good it sounded!

The SL-X is definitely smoother than the DSL. It's not muffled or anything, but it's smoother and a little darker. You should try one out. I thought it was great. I wouldn't mind having another one, to be honest.

Hi Chris,
Can you tell me more about the features of the amp, Chris? Like does it have two channels, how much gain, did you boost it? I think I'll like the fact that it would be a little smoother as I'm starting to find that the DSL can be just a little much sometimes..

Thanks man!! I think I'll check one out and see what I think.

I remember hearing what an awful amp the JCM 900 was. Everytime I was at a store and asked about tehm I would always get the same reply..." The last good amp Marshall made was the 800". I don't have much experience with them. I think i played one like 15 years ago. All I know is a lot of folks don't think much of them.

mostly because everybody said that and even I remember hearing that when ever I would want to go try one.. Personally I don't know what I'll do with out a clean channel and these EMG's don't clean up well at all. I still want to go try one to see what I think.

The SL-X amps are respected by most. It's the other "Dual Reverb" models that are dissed by alot of people. But to be honest, even those can sound killer in the right hands.

Bill from Firehouse was using a 900, not sure which one but it sounded awesome.
First amp I've been really excited about trying in a long time.
Any other things that you liked or disliked about the amp Chris?

I had an SL-X 50w that was a real solid amp. I had 6L6's in mine, which I think lent to a fuller bottom end. As with many amps I found it truly worked best when the volume was up. One thing I like to do was roll the treble way down and adjust the top end with the presence control.
