Hello All

I am considering replacing my pedalboard with either the G System or M13 and would like to hear your experiences. My amp is a Mod 50, and I use phase, delay, wah, chorus, and flange, and would like to try other effects and would like to utilize the series loop to have less coloration of my tone when playing dry.( the amp reverb is in the parallel loop) Please share your experiences with these effects.

Thanks

G system is great but you will need a line level shifter. I had both and a lot of effects I really liked in the M13 that I cant get in my G sys. Big dollar difference.

G is more flexible, midi switching and better effects. I threw a Nova Drive in the loop of the G system and run the 4 cable method. Takes a while to tweak.

M13 is easy to tweak like a stomp box (big +)
you can run verbs delay etc in loop and od dist in front of amp (same with G)
only up to 4 effects at a time and you have to tap dance some

Honestly, if less tone coloration is your goal, I wouldn't consider either the G Sys or the M13. Anything where your dry tone is run through an A/D converter is going to potentially result in tone suck unless you isolate it in a loop that can be turned on or off.

I haven't tried the M13, but I did try one of the new red LTD G Systems with my M4/RT2-50 rig. I thought it was way overpriced for the tone it puts out. Frankly, I think my old Rocktron Replifex sounds better than the G Sys with less tone coloration.

Why not keep your pedal setup, but move the pedals to a rack and isolate them in loops using a GCX? If you want post-preamp effects too (delay, verb), then get a TC G Major 2 and a Suhr Mini Mix for the serial loop. That should minimize the tone coloration issue.

I hate to agree. I tried the M13 and Red G. They both have really cool effects (each different, but still interesting). Having said that, I still felt that the amp sounded better without the conversion. I am still looking for that balance for the serial loop. Have you tried a processor in place of the reverb in the parallel loop for delays, reverbs and chorus? So far, I haven't found anything I am entirely happy with besides a good buffer, true bypass pedals or TB looper (like a GCX) to the front and an MPX1 in the parallel loop for delay and reverb.

With that said, the M13 was better for the over the top effects and to mimic certain pedals, while the G was better for control of the whole system. I am now wrestling with trying to build a gig friendly setup using a GCX/GCP. I'd like to stay with a pedalboard for my back's sake. We'll see. Supposedly the DC glass nexus has the least effect on the signal (conversion-wise). But, I haven't tried it...yet.

Good luck!

The G system is a very unique and powerful effect device. There is a lot of little thing that if you miss it will effect your tone but if you do a little research on the TC Electronics forums and follow all the hits and tips, YOU WILL BE EXTREMELY HAPPY!
There is a huge learning curve but once you catch on it is worth the extra effort.
IMHO the G system is the most transparent digital effect unit that you can get for the money and it can control your whole rig. The GCP/GCX is almost the same price and it has no effects.
I use it every weekend with my band and love it. Each to his own.
