Hey guys,

I just wanted to hear your opinion on this.
I´m playing a 2007 Herbert and a Diezel FL
4x12" with V30s and MC90s in X-Pattern.

I´m currently building up a my new rig. I just
ordered a custom case with space for the
Herbert and four rack spaces above which will
house a Furman PL+, a Korg DTR-1, a BBE 362
and....

either a TC G-System or a TC G-Major. If I´ll go
with the G-Major I´ll buy a Diezel Columbus Midi
Pedal.

I know that there are owners of both TC units
here on the board. Thanx for your help and your
suggestions!

as you might know, i have had good results with the g system/herbert combo

The G-System is far better processor than G-Major, but I would choose a Columbus and a used Lexicon PCM 80 or TC 2000 or equivalent.

You bought an excellent system with an outstanding amp and cab. And maybe you use good cables, you have some nice axes. So it's a state of the art "chain". And now you want to insert a "sound resistor". When I got my VH4-S I sold the G-major the next day, because it affected the sound that much. I tried a G-Force, same result. And even the G-system was influencing the sound that much, that I now only use an EBS Dynaverb and an old TC Chorus. On my Herbert is even easier with the switchable loop. With the columbus and only two effects you can do anything you need without loosing the sound...
So, I'm really dissappointed by all these Multieffect-machines. You loose a lot of the sound you got by choosing a Diezel...

I just bought the Columbus...and think about what to use for effects after I got it, haha!

I agree with you on the G-Major and G-Force as I owned both of them as well and sold them immediately due to the adverse coloring of the "Diezel" tone! I can't believe how many peeps out there buy a $4,000 Diezel and then buy ANY unit that is going to alter the tone! You G-Major users are fooling yourselves if you think it does not! Go back & forth...plug straight in and see! I then bought a Rocktron Xpression that was very transparent and did not alter the tone even in the serial loop and has true bypass but the effects were not as lush as I would have hoped for...good but not great! But I have to disagree with you on the G System! If you use the 4 cable method thru the serial loop the tone is VERY close to the original. Any other routing method with the G System sounds like crap! The only thing I experienced that I did not like with the G System was the hiss/floor noise with the unit. Like Van Hellion and many others, I purchased an ISP Decimator Pro Rack G and it solved ground loop issues with the 4 cable method on the G System and the hiss. The ISP Deecimator is the most significant single piece of equipment I think I have ever purchased....simply friggin amazing! Not like a gate that slams the door shut on your trailing notes but pin-drop and I mean DEAD QUIET when not playing.

I just bought a Rocktron Xpression too, and I'm really happy with it. Haven't used a G-System yet, but I really like the way the Xpression adds to the sound without coloring it too much at all. :)

I´m gonna get a Rocktron Xpression until I can afford a really good unit like the PCM80.
Thx for all the help guys!!! This board rocks!!!

I simply use a vintage Korg SDD1000 rack for the delay in the parallel loop (stunning unit, with great choruses, flangers, detune, even sampling, but not midified) and a few pedals (comp, vibe, fuzz, wah) : absolutely perfect sound. The simplest is the best.

PM sent. I have 2 Xpressions and I think I'm going to sell one.

The problem I experienced with the Xpression was the lag time when switching patches.. there's a slight delay when switching patches... I found it to be somewhat transparent, but mine had a bit of hissy noise when using some of the effects. I guess that's where the decimator comes in place.
I use the G-Force for basic delays, chorus and reverbs and the odd phaser/flange here and there. I am happy with it. I use it in the switchable loop so I switch off the loop where I don't need effects. I personally didn't notice a huge sound coloration - maybe a tad bit, but you'll always get that with any kind of digital processor...

I have the same doubt here.

I think, is good idea buy a Columbus and wait for the others, like... ;)

Korg DTR-2 (7 strings)
ISP Pro Rack G (forget the BBE)
Furma PL+
:D
MultiFX I dont have a solucion in my mind

i've always had bad sound resolts with digital rack gear. i think if you have a great tube amp you should run great analog pedals. the loop switcher is awsome and does not suck tone from the amp. you can program the ground controll to do what ever you want. all the loops are true bypass. i run an older boss dd-3 in the unswitchable loop of the vh-4 and use the loop of the gcx to turn it on and off. even with the pedal in the loop and being on the gcx switches it to true bypass so there is nothing going through it when it's off. it's just my opinion though. i'm always buying and tring new gear no matter how much they cost. this set up right now work great live and in the studio.

The switchable parallel loops on the Diezels are awesome, like having a built in line mixer with a mute. If you are worried about preserving your signal with digital FX then this is the way to go.

Of course you could also look at the higher end processors which sound awesome, like the Eventide stuff or the Axe FX. The converters in these are high quality and don't fuck the sound. You spent the money for a high end amp might as well go all the way HAHA!

Well, as I said, the Xpression is just gonna be a temporary solution. I´m getting my second Diezel 4x12" next week
so I´ll be a little short on money for awhile. There are three more things I´ll need for my rig:
The Eventide Eclipse, the ISP Decimator ProRackG and the Dunlop Rack Wah. I´m gonna exchange the Xpression with
the Eclipse. But that´ll take me awhile to get the money together, I´m still a student.

But thx for the help guys!

I agree with lots that has been said here. I am also very picky when it comes to gear in the loop.

Lexicon MX200 is ridiculously cheap (200$) but has great great FX quality and sounds absolutely neutral on bypass and very fresh and transparent when on.

Only downside, it does have a deleay when changing programs. I just use one setting per song and switch bypass on and off, so that#s no issue for me.

Where do you guys put the ISP in your signal path? Also, do they make one that isn't a rackmount and does it work as well? THANKS!
