Does anyone know anything about the herbert circuitry? or is this peter's domain only?
Let me go through my experience in painstaking detail so i dont have to explain it later...
I ask because I bought a v1.6 herbert.
it came with 4x el34bstr, and 2x 6l6gc. (34,6L6,34,34,6L6,34).
And it came from the US.
I converted it to 240VAC input using a drawing sent by salwender (just rewiring the input tranny.
Plugged it in and it fired up!
It then destroyed my (speakers) cab at band practice #1, which was a really archaic cheap POS anyway. So I picked up a GENZ BENZ 412SL as a temporary measure.
Then, I accidentally bought fast blow fuses (2A for the power input). so at band practice #2 it went through a whole box of those and finally started up without blowing on the last fuse.
It sounded terrible to my ears, and surprisingly quiet, but I put this down to the concrete room we were in, and the drums reverberating badly, and my earplugs.
After that I came to the conclusion that something aint right. so i sat down to check the bias, and found a different fuse inside blown.
It is nearest the AC power jack (very top left), and is marked 250V L1.6T, a 1.6 Amp slow blow fuse. What does it protect?
With it blown, what is not functioning? A set of tubes? A side of a tube set?
Can I replace it with a ceramic type 1.6A slow blow?
These seem to be the closest stocked thing at the local electronics store.
I'm not rushing into replacing it.
I am an engineering student, so I'm comfortable with this stuff, as long as I take my time to research things. Also there seems to be only one amp tech in my town, and I'm not convinced... well you know.
I also noticed some apparent modifications on the circuit board..
Resistors/caps missing/bridged.
I'll post some pics for some feedback.
