Looking for another boost, to use with my 6505+. I'm using a TS9, (sounds great), but sucks bass, and smooths it out a bit much, and not real dynamic..

How's the OCD with high-gainers?

not bad honestly. if you want a REALLY sweet overdrive that doesnt suck bass i would go with a HBE power screamer. they have a built in switchable bass boost that thicknes up tone like crazy. also you can find them used for about the price as a new ocd.

i had an ocd then i traded it for my second powerscreamer if that tells you anything.

The OCD doesn't work that great as a boost in front of a super hi gain amp, IMO. I have one and love it, but I use it in front of a '77 JMP 2203 which sounds killer!

Honestly, use the TS9 and just add the bass back in via the amp's eq. The bass loss (really a mid hump) with a TS type pedal is what tightens up the amp. I think TS style pedals make the best boosts. Also try the Maxon 808.

In my experience, when you boost with a pedal that has a bass boost in it, the low end is not tightened at all. I have an OCD and a BB Pre and get the same results. YMMV.

Love my OCD for boosting my rectifier. I used to only use my BB+, but I've found that the OCD is a cool boost as you can switch from LP to HP for a chewy, softer sag feel, to a harder more responsive faster feel respectively. Also the OCD sounds real nice through a clean channel as its own gain source.

As stated above however, I think there are better pedals to boost with like the Maxon od808(probably the best I've heard) and Lovepedal Eternity is really nice too. The TS9 is a little too nasally and honky for me.

The OCD can get mushy with high gainers. Like someone else said it sounds great with a clean channel though. I have mine set with the drive all the way down and the volume just about all the way up for adding some sag/saturation to my solos with my Splawn

Didn't really love the OCD in front of my Quick Rod (as a clean booster), sold it and bought a Maxon OD808, stopped searching/sampling pedals for clean boosting that day, perfect match.

I owned a 6505+ for about a year, tried many pedals for up front cleanish boosting, oddly enough it was the cheapy Bad Monkey that paired best with it IMO (on the crunch channel).

The OCD can be a bit mushy I agree, but the OCD has alot more output than a stock TS. I like a high output on my boost and run the gain lower on the amp. It actually reduces noise if your guitar isnt picking anything up.

I like the OCD overall

Try the Barber Direct Drive too. Badass OD/Distortion box. Very thick with little or no mid hump. No bottom end suckage and tons of output. Even on its own thru a clean ch is sounds good. Very different than the OCD though.

Fulltone GT-500 doesn't cut bass, adds some if anything.

i've had a gazillion boost pedals and the GT-500 is the last man standing. i just use the boost side.

i agree with you on the ts....but the maxon was dirty too me as a boost

i sold the ocd and got an HBE paradrive (based on powerscreamer). for boosting hi-gain, i haven't looked back to the ocd

+1 on the Maxon OD808. I had been using an SD-1 and my recordings had no bass at all, I thought it was the amp so I put the mic further out from center and recordings sounded mushy, but the bass was punchy so it was alright. Got the Maxon 808 and my bass has returned and it's punchier than ever.
