I'm thinking about buying one on Friday and what your opinions on them

I loved the MIG50 years ago, very marshallesque and somehow rude.

In the end, playing a Sovtek is for me more kind of an attitude then digging a certain tone ...

Never played one, but suppose to sound good, and be a good platform for Marshall type mods.

I had one years ago. They sound pretty decent but aren't built very well.

Yeah I plan on replacing the junk plastic pots and switches and jacks but other than that how are they

MIG 60 has high plate voltage so it makes a great mod platform. Ive done lots of different mods to those and they always sound killer. One in particular I didnt want to mod, it was such a perfect early MV , JMP tone.

I had one of them several years back... it sounded nice, but it didn't seem to be made of the best parts. Also, the particular one I had ran very hot for some reason.

I'm not sure how good the mig 100 is for mods, but I've got a mig 60 modded by jerrydyer and it kills

From what I remember, the 100u is a lower gain version. Loud as all hell and yes, a great mod platform.

I gigged a Mig60 for years and then sent it to Doug R for a JCM800 mod. I search ebay almost everyday looking for it to pop back up.

Is a laney aor a better amp then?

In stock form, I liked the AOR a little better. I had the 30 watt and the 50 watt versions.

The only thing worth mentioning is that the push/pull boost switches on the EQ aren't all that useful...especially the bass boost, which is way over the top. I never used that one.

If it's any help, a Krank Revolution Series One is a modded Sovtek Mig 100h.
First runs of the Rev were built on the Sovtek chassis, using the iron.
Subsequent runs used all Krank parts, and the transformers IMO were undersized.
A Krank Revolution Series One with bigger transformers sounds awesome.
Good components and build quality in the Krank amps.

interesting....is the plate voltage as high......... like 560? I think this is part of the tone i like now. some of these old amps are really cool.. the carlsbro i just worked on had Partridge trannies.

475 I think.
I don't know what the original trannies were, but the non-Sovtek ones were not so good for that amp.
The trannies from the Plus series are huuuge... there's a funny back story on those, not for public consumption though.

how come i dont get to be in your great transactions?

Sorry, I thought all of that was outside of rig talk, but I've added you anyway

What's the plate voltage on the 60? Isn't it in the 600s or something?
