How heavy can the 20th XTC get? How does it compare to the Twin Jet Uber? I've never owned or played any XTC so I'm wondering what the amp sounds like on all 3 channels. Is the high gain a really compressed blanket over the speaker cab vibe or is it open and raw?

Check the Bogner site for some pretty decent sound samples. From a distance, the 20th XTC seems to me like an XTC with some added gain on all channels, some slight re-voicing, and a slightly larger head box. And Liberace-style white tolex.

The 20th can be diealed in more open and raw than a 101b.
More gain & attitude than the 101b too.

My red channel can do the RR crazy train 10x better, is the amp RR should have had. Passes the Zack Wylde Marshall tone. My 20th is paired with the matching 4x12 Bog cab with V30s and sounds Heavenly. It is voiced for V30s, through my TM212 cl80/g12T75 cabs it was much darker and bassier.

This amp goes from Clean to Scream. :worship:

I found it was what I had been looking for. :D

So it comes stock with 6L6 power valves, but the description says either 6L6 or EL34 (or some others). Is this a simple swap from one to the other or does it mandate a hardwire modification?

Thanks for any info.

AFAIK, it's a mod to switch. I'm pretty sure that with the 101a / 101b, if you wanted to switch, it meant a transformer change. I don't know if it's absolutely necessary, but they do use different transformers. For the 20th, at the least it would be changing out bias resistors to get the correct range. You can order the 20th to come with 6L6s or EL34s, though I guess it was designed around 6L6s.

The guys at Bogner emailed me back about 4-5 weeks ago about this. They have to change the Transformer and resistors and cost $300.

So basically, stick with the 6L6's and see how ya like it before making any decisions in advance...

Thanks for the 411,
V.

I am extremely happy with the 6L6s. My Mesa has a pair of 6L6's and my Rev Blue has EL34s. Im sure if you play the 20th X with 6L6's you will like it. Does a great raw thicker Randy Rhoads Crazy Train tone, Randy should've had this amp. If you played this amp and didnt know what tubes were in it you would think it was EL34s, IMHO. Try her out and if you think you have to have them then send it to Bogner.

ive been testing the gold finger today  we are shooting a demo video tomorrow
