I know these lists get done to death on other forums but don't remember one here. Plus these kind of help you to figure out which members are on the same wavelengths as you playing and tone-wise. These are the albums that influenced me the most as a lead guitarist. They're not necessarily my favorite songs or bands or even albums by these bands, but the ones where the guitar playing really grabbed me and had a huge impression on me.

In no particular order:

1.) Diary of a Madman - Ozzy/Rhoads
2.) Tribute - Ozzy/Rhoads
3.) Van Halen I - VH
4.) Van Halen II - VH
5.) Corridors of Power - Gary Moore
6.) We Want Moore - Gary Moore
7.) Knights of the New Thunder - TNT/Ronni Le Tekro
8.) Heading for a Storm - Vandenberg
9.) No Parole From Rock and Roll - Alcatrazz/Yngwie
10.) On the Streets - Le Mans (featured an 18 year old Derek Frigo and Josh Ramos on guitars and they were local Chicago heroes that just ripped it up in a 1983 pre-Yngwie way.)

What are yours?

When I started, it was pretty much the first 3 metallica albums, early VH and early Kiss. My renewed interest in the last 2 years (after a hiatus from guitar) was pretty much due to LOG - Ashes of the Wake and As the Palaces Burn.

Hmm... If I had to guess, I'd say, in no particular order:

Metallica- ...And Justice For All
Alice In Chains- Dirt
Black Sabbath- Paranoid
King Crimson- Discipline
The Cure- Disintigration
The Sisters Of Mercy- First And Last And Always
Isis- Panopticon
Opeth- Blackwater Park
Gov't Mule- Dose
Ani Difranco- Reckoning/Revelling

And I'm sure I'm probably forgetting something. A ton of metal, for one... but I'm not such a big metalhead anymore.

Cool man, fun thread!

1. Ozzy - Blizzard of Ozz
2. Ozzy - Diary of a Madman - spent my 1st 2 years of guitar deciphering Diary and Blizzard
3. Steve Morse - the Introduction
4. Yngwie - Rising Force
5. Gary Moore - Victims of the Future
6. Joe Satriani - Surfing With the Alien
7. Quiot Riot - Metal Health, oddly enough I played that record every morning before school - that was my caffeine. I could play all the solos and songs, so even though they were easy, it probably did influence me to some point.
8. Michael Schenker Group - the one with Armed and Ready
9. Bryan Adams - Cuts Like a Knife - that dude had tone!
10. Kenny Moore - local guy that I had a cassette tape of him at a rehearsal. I probably listened to that more than most of these.

Most of the "influential" albums date back to my more woodshedding teenage years that shaped my playing more so than what I listen to now. So in no particular order, off the top of my head based on what I hear in my own playing (good or bad) -

Metallica - Master of Puppets
Van Halen - 5150
Pearl Jam - 10
GnR - Appetite
Aerosmith - Toys in the Attic
Ratt - Out of the Cellar era
