THE 4 TONES OF HEVEN!!!

Hey Folks,
Below are the tones that many guitarists want to have in their rig as a "MUST HAVE" tone, especially if they are playing in a cover band. The artists in the brackets are those who come to mind when describing that sound.

1. Fender Clean
2. Fender OD (SRV)
3. Marshall crunch (Malcom Young)
4. Marshall lead (Angus Young)
5. Marshall high gain (Gary Moore)
6. Soldano/5150/ liquid high gain (EVH)

The 6 sounds above are the staple of the last 40 years of guitar.
My question is: which Egnater modules, in you opinion, (with or without stomp-box pedals helping out) get you guys close to these iconic sounds?

1. In my experience, the DLX, T/D, or VOX is all one needs for cleans--say no more.
2. For Fender OD (SRV), i am yet to find it--(please share your thoughts)
3. For the Marshall crunch (Malcom Young sound), SL2 "A" Channel is on the money as far as i am concerned.
4. For the Marshall lead (Angus Young sound), SL2 at 2-O'clock nails it to a teeeeeeeee!!!!
5. The Marshall high gain (Gary Moore "still have the blues for you" sound) continues to elude me, even with the SL2 gain at 5 O'clock! (please help with pedal options etc)
6. The liquid (not scooped) rich, fat , high gain sound, reminiscent of EVH still eludes me. However, i am waiting for a EG5 which i hope will give me that sound.

Please share your thoughts

I think the Bman offers both Fender clean & SRV crunch. The clean is just a little less sparkle than the T/D. But's it's fenderish clean though !

you're right about the SL2, you can get any Marshall sound you want even the crunch.

I think the EG5/MHG can do the Soldano stuff, but if you want this sound for rythm the EG5 will be more appropriate from what I've read here. I use the MHG for solo only.
I think what is wonderfull with those amps is that it really respect your guitar and your guitar pickups. So with only one module you can get a looooot of sound only by changing pickup position (from neck to middle, single coil to humbucker etc),playing with the volume pot and changing between a vintage kind of guitar and a modern (EMG) one.
And when you think that you have 2 channel/modules and with a M4 you can get 4 modules. I don't think there is a a basic sound that you can't have.

Finally, I personnally would add to your list :

7. Vox Crunch (the Edge)
8. Vox Gained (Brian May)
 
Fender OD: If you're thinking that bluesy, SRV inspired tone, have you tried the COD module yet? That NAILS it... like, really, realy nails it.

And if you think the SL2 can do ACDC, WAIT till you try the SL... holy cow! :thumbsup:

I have to put the EG3/4 in for the Gary Moore Marshall high gain sound (Channel A) and Channel B for the liquid high gain sound. I know it works well like that in my set up it.

Amen on all points! I really didnt anticipate liking the SL as much as I do. Its really somethin else. :rock:
 
I owned both the SL and SL2 and I gots to agree, the SL is much much closer for ACDC tones.

With all these "must have" modules, i think Bruce is going to have to design an "M8" case!!!!

I own both the SL and SL2 and have been getting very good VH sounds with the SL2. I Love the SL too but i find the SL2 is voiced a touch more aggressive and that matches up well for early VH. I basically set up my old Plexi and the MOD50 in the studio and A/B'd them til the were really close. I found setting the treble boost set on 2 and playing with the presence helped alot. I wasn't too concerned with where all the settings ended being set. Just that the sounds were really close.

The SL and SL2 are must haves for me. They are similar but definitely cover pretty much every range of Marshall from JCM800 and earlier IMO.

For OD SRV check out the COD module. It's not a slight OD, has plenty of higher end harmonics, but I like that added brightness. At first it didn't hit me that it sounded like SRV, until I played it along side some records and I realized there was more raunchiness to his tone that I had previously thought.

I'm not a Van Halen-head, I just know a few of the popular songs, but I think the eg3/4 can do it. It's got a nice juicy midrange. With a les paul and on the 4 channel while I was just turning the knobs I found the "you really got me" tone. Again, I'm the furthest thing from a "VH specialist" but, it sounded good to me.

Also, VX B will give you modern rock tones with clarity. Think Foo-fighters kind of gain.
 
i love the EG3/4 on ch B for pink floyd david gilmore tone with a fender usa strat.
