is probably one of the best and most versatile amps ever built. I love it for just about everything, and every single person who has ever plugged into mine has wanted to buy it from me.

How's that for awesome?

Great job, Bogner. Sorry I'm late to the party, but if it meant getting the Ecstasy I got, I won't complain for a second.

I want a Bogner 101B so bad. I already have 3 Bogners, but for some reason, I just need to own a 101B someday. It's a life goal of mine. I know, silly, but true.

My favorite and I also have 2 -20th XTC's. I know, odd but for me the 101B is the best and most sweet and organic sounding. I like the others but the 101B is a classic in MHO.

One of my fav amps ever! Greg, what year was yours built?

Of the amps that have come and gone through the years, my 101B has been the only constant. Right now I'm still honeymooning with the 20th Anni XTC, but there's something about the 101B that's comfortable. Fired it up the other day and still in love.

Mine is brand new... Feb 2011.

There's something about this amp that's unbeatable. It's really fantastic.

Never had the chance to play one and it has been a constant itch I have needed scratch. That and the 20th anny.

The first XTC I played was one of the first 101b models with the white chassis. Had it on loan from a shop and it sounded amazing. Not sure why the white chassis amps get such a bad rap. I thought the one I played had tons of tone!

The Ecstasy was my 1st choice for a Bogner; however, I received Twin Jets instead. :D

It's currently tied with the Hagen for when I save enough.

Yep. They're outstanding heads. I LOVE their tone. LOVE their playability. It's my kinda amp.

Maybe my "deserted island" amp

I had a 2007 101B that I loved and used for awhile. I would buy that amp back in a heartbeat if I could afford to. The whole amp was cool, but that blue channel ... killer.

That was started by a guy who goes by the name "squarehead". He went to TGP and posted a warning that people "should not buy the 101B cab-switching head". I have both the 100B and an early 101B with cab-switching. It's every bit as good as my 100B if not better because of the cab switching option. Maybe there was one on ebay that he wanted?

Here's an email exchange between myself and Jorg at Bogner...

My question:
"I was also curious to the "tone suck" comments on TGP in reference to the early 101 model Ecstasy amplifiers. I have a 100B and a 101B with the cab switching/attenuator loop options. It's one of the best sounding amplifiers I've ever owned, and sounds just as good (maybe even better) than my 100B. I'm just a bit confused as to what these people are referring to?

Jorg:
"The cab switching is done with relays so the audio signal goes over the relays which migth or might not suck tone. Neclegtable in my opinion. These are VERY expensive huge relays. It's just something for people to talk about... I would not worry about it."

I also spoke with Charlie at Bogner who said; "comparing a 100B to a 101B cab switcher is splitting hairs at best..."

Sounds to me like Bogner wanted to keep costs as low as possible by streamlining the overall design maybe? As far as Squarehead's "tone suck" comments are concerned, he must have played a 101B that had something wrong with it. If he played one at all?

Step 2: MUST buy white chassis 101b!!

I have the 101B rigged with a SOB 2x12 Celestion Alnico Gold loaded cab dedicated to channel 1, and a 4x12 V30 loaded cab dedicated to channels 2 and 3. Note vs note I would describe the 100B as a bit more transparent - but not by much. The 100B has that AIC thing happening in spades, where the 101B has a more eq'd STP thing going on... Those are two of my favorite bands, so I'll take it!

I think the 100B variac option is too cool for school! It's the truest "brown sound" I've ever been able to muster from any amplifier yet. It's really addicting too! Once you turn it on, you don't want to turn it off. This is one option I think Bogner should have kept. Will Reinhold put a variac option in the amp that he's building for Joe Bonamassa?

They are both great amps, and I don't think I could choose between either one. If the 101B didn't have the cab switching option, I would take the 100B for sure. Someone once asked Jerry Cantrell about the Bogner sound"? He replied; "It's the sound of a 300lb maniac coming at you down a dark alleyway smashing trash cans with his fists..."
