...The more I want to play Les Pauls

I love a good Superstrat, but damn, a Les Paul just feels right. I guess there's a reason why they've been the "go to" rock guitar for about a million years ;)

I love the way Les Pauls sound, but with me starting on a strat, a strat just feels like home. I am getting more comfortable on Les Pauls the more I play them. I have gotten so I almost play was well on a Les Paul as a do a strat....

I used to be strictly a LP guy...and now I find them to be a bit shitty ergonomically and tonewise, while they do sound HUGE, they can get muddy and get that "bankety" tone to them at times.

they dont jst play right they SOUND firggin huge! If you are used to sa super strat you might find them more restrictive but nothing sounds as fierce in the neck.

I love a good les paul, they sound great to me and i really like the feel, im more comfortable on a lester than any other guitar.

I remember the first time I picked up a real LP at Guitar Center. Plugged in, jaw dropped, and I thought to myself "Oh, so that's how I can get that sound in my head!"

I started on Strats, then went to superstrats, then finally found home on a Les Paul.

I'm using 9s on my LP and I absolutely love the tone I get out of it. I used to use 10s, but the 9s sound just as full as 10s, but with more articulation to my ears. I'm sure I'm going to get it now from a lot of the LP guys now. :D

Most of us migrate back to our roots. I started on a Les Paul copy as my first guitar years ago and went through my superstrat, tele, PRS stages and still wound right back home with Les Pauls about 10 years ago. Plus, guitars are like clothing/jewelry to me and everything but a Les Paul makes my butt look big :gay:

Not from me! Been using 9's on mine since the early 90's. Killer bends, and the tone is the chid! The only other guitar I like to play anymore is my V since I put a Super Distortion in the bridge and a Humbucker from Hell in the neck. That thing is really versatile, light, and super fast with the slim taper neck. It just doesn't get that LP feel/punch though.

Im using 9s on my les pauls that are in standard e tuning and like how they sound. I only been using 9s for the past year, before that i always played 10s.

11s on my LPs!

I consider myself an LP guy as well. You're right, they just feel and sound right.

10s on all my axes except for my downtuned metalhead axes, which get the 11 to 56 treatment.

Outside of this, Lesters to me have been and probably always will be the epitome of a guitar to me. They're damn right sexy, they're curvaceous, they're timeless, and they sound fkn incredible. I can pick up a mess of guitars, but when I pick up a Lester, it feels like home.

Great thread!!

Love the tone of a Les Paul. My Les Paul Custom sounded amazing. Had to let it go. Sat in the closet 98% of the time.

I tried and tried and tried but I could never jive with it. Felt all wrong. Incredible tone though.

Interesting -- I've been playing super - strats for rehearsals and live for a while but tonight I played my Midnight Manhattan LP Limited and MAN the sound that comes out of that axe!!!

I use 10s tuned to Eb. Probably would use 9s if I went to standard. I tried using 11s for a couple of months - might have even had 12s at one point - but I didn't like the way they sounded in the bridge. Not bright and articulate enough the way the thinner strings are.

Now, I won't put anything on my LP but 10-46 pure nickel. Good god the tone is incredible!

I Love them too!! Always have!

There all good, but that last picture is awesome

I started on a '62 SG Junior. But at the time, (in my young and dumb perception) it wasn't cool enough, so I migrated to a Gibson Q3000 "Superstrat", and then other assorted Superstrats. I finally landed on Ibby RG's (love 'em), but I'll be damned if I'm not being pulled towards LP's more and more. Can't say that I really mind that

That pic of young me and that Les Paul... That is the same Gibson I am playing in the recent pic. I LOVE THIS guitar!

I have put MANY miles and hours of playing time on this guitar.

My 1st Gibson guitar was a '62 Les Paul. I WISH I still had that guitar

Guitars like that, where you know the history - because you lived it - are truly special.
