my hustlin' lifestyle just dosent allow me to really sit down for extended amounts of time very much anymore, its more a few quick 5 minute jams throughout my busy day, not even long enough to get warmed up usually. the nights i do maybe have a couple drinks and play long enough for the grease to come out, its amazing just how much better everything sounds.. without changing anything. the groovy swing is the best tone enhancer. dudes think they are chasing eddies tone, but i think they are really chasing his swing

Based realization

Playing for hours every day to keep your chops up is a sacrifice and not a lot of people can do it

It really does help though, and it's difficult to not mention "hey the reason your tone doesn't sound great is because your playing is a bit sus"

Which does pop up from time to time with RTers, but honestly most of the people here are pretty solid and know what they're about

I notice the difference a lot more with specific types of amps though. I gig the 1992 with my punk band specifically because it's pretty forgiving and I don't need to hone my chops to a razor's edge to get the music across.

take a song we all know like Master of Puppets for example.. if i recorded it first or second take, which is usually what i do like an asshole for my clips here lol, then record it again after a half hour or so after im really warmed up and ready to go, the tone is gonna sound that much better just because im playing that much better. what a concept, especially when ur baked

Nah it will be better the first time

Tone is stored in the balls.

Yeah, my playing's really suffered these past few months because I really have no time I could sit down with my guitar.

If I'm sitting down, I'm studying or working.

Can browse the net when I commute

If "tone" is in yer fingers then cut off all yer fingers in a pile and try plugging that into an amp and see what that sounds like.

I sold my IRX two nights ago, and the buyer wanted to plug into it, did so and played around for a little bit, played some riffs that we were discussing, and he passed me the guitar, and it sounded notably different using the same stuff. The players touch is incredibly important, and its stupid to say otherwise. Obviously a large part of that is "skill", but some things aren't exactly skill, but more so chance. The way one holds the pick, etc.

Took me a while to understand the statement but it is true....when you finally get it, it makes sense.

I've been saying for a while now that tone is everywhere. But @stephen sawall really hit the nail on the head. Tone for every single one of us is in our head. Our ears are imperfect transducers (just like condenser mics) that all 'have a tone' and essentially make a tiny electric signal that our brain then 'converts' into what we perceive as sound.

It's easy to see that our ears are pointed forward and how we can tell if something is in front of or behind us by hearing it. But did you know that our ears are shaped in such a way that frequencies around 6k IIRC are greatly attenuated when below your head but not when above your head? That's how you can tell something is above or below you but you don't hear it like that. You just know it's above or below you.

This whole video is good but I timestamped it to the part about your ear's directional hearing.

And you don't even have full fingers

no, but my nub pinky isnt even the biggest problem, its my wrist that wants to lock up, i was in middle school when i smashed it and my hand was still growing, they told me then im gonna have to have surgery at some point cause as my hand grew it was gonna want to be in a fist position all the time, which dosent bother me doing anything other than playing guitar which i have to stretch my hand the complete opposite way it wants to go, i wasnt really playing serious yet though so i never had the surgery, and when i did get serious about playing i just kind of dealt with it, i just gotta be drop tuned power chord and single note guy lol
