Mornin" everyone!
New to the boards and a newly purchaser of the Rebel 20 Head. Got it about 2 months ago and have been jamming with it regularly for at least an hour a day since I got it. Man! sounds better every day I've played. Wonderful little tone-monster.....except for yesterday.
Turned the amp on and grabbed my Strat to hear what would be best described as a nasally, thin dead tone.... No harmonics or richness...almost like the guitar had gone out of intonation. Went to look at the Sovtek 12ax7's to determine the bad one and of course had to pull out the EL 84's to get to the Pre's and I noticed that on ( 1) of the 84's there was a small "smoke spot" on the inside of the glass. Right in the middle of the tube. About the size of a watch battery. Tubes light up fine, no plate glowing from what I see, but it has me suspecting that that paticular one might have "popped" or something. Anyone experience this situation??
They are JJ EL 84's that came with the amp.
An additional ques. too, is if it is a bad EL84, the only one right now I have available to me are a set of either EH EL84's or Groove Tube Gold EL84's. Does this mean a trip to an amp tech to Re-bias ?
Sucks cause I just got out of a baaaaddd ,daily hassel relationship with a Fender Hot Rod and enjoy the shit out of this new amp.
Thoughts and advice of any would be helpful.
Thnx DJ

Hey welcome to the board!!The Rebel has to sets of bias pots inside with the settings printed on the board next to the pots.,real easy to bias but you do have to take it out of the head shell. It's pretty easy!!!
