Thinking of changing my preamp tubes in the VH4 as well...

I'm changing my power section from =C= EL34s to =C= 6550s.

Not sure which preamp tubes I have in right now but they're marked TAD 12ax7s.

Should I go ahead and change out my preamp tubes as well?

I'll be using my VH4 for thrash metal/speed metal through a Diezel cab with G12K-100s.

how long have you had your amp?
if its been awhile you might want to change the preamps
use 12ax7ac5 HG+ and 12ax7ac5 HG i dont know what order
they go in for a VH4 though because i have a herbert

I've had it for a little bit but it was previously owned by some dude from the Goo Goo Dolls, though it didn't seem to have much use. The amp is mint and the tubes are very fresh.

I was just thinking that maybe there are some nicer options out there for my preamp tubes to match the new 6550 section.

Agreed. Duolos is spot on with the recommendation - Ruby 12ax7AC5 HG+ in V1 & V2, AC5 (or AC7) HG in the rest of the slots.

Dude.. Why would you even bother to say something like that? Terry IS Diezel USA. I have spoken to him several times and I am pretty sure the guy knows his stuff.
And why the hell would he and Peter not share the same opinion on what are the best tubes for their amps? Terry works for Peter..

no doubt i agree with you even though personally have never talked to
Terry and also everybody that deals with Diezel products are the most
friendly people even my Canadian distrubutor Andy oh well cant win them

With that out of the way. I also wanted the Ruby 12ax7AC5 HG+ for V1 and V2. I went to doug tubes and they only had the AC7 HG. Ill swap them this weekend, i wonder how it will effect the tone.

Let me know where you find the Ruby 12ax7AC5 HG+ i still want to try them out.

I decided to go with the new re-issue Tung-Sol 12ax7 for my preamp section.

Had tubestore noise test the tubes for me, as per request of my amigo, Terry.

I'll be getting the 6550s and preamp tubes today, will give an immediate update when I finish the change.
