This was once a 1974 Fender Twin Reverb

Hey Guys,

It's been a while...

I've been working on three different 2 channel prototypes and this is the most recent one.
I finally stumbled across the perfect Fender for this project. It is a 1974 Twin Reverb that was converted to a head in 2009 and had the OT changed to a TAD made in USA '65 Blackface spec paper bobbin OT.
I've been thinking about doing a Fender rebuild since I saw Johan Segeborn's video of a Bogner-modded Super Reverb, which sounded very special.
It's still quite different due to 4x 6L6 and solid state rectifier but oh well...

I rebuilt the amp with a clean and overdrive channel, which are built on top of each other, similar to a Dumble or Boogie MK series.
To solve some of the problems when it comes to channel switching versatility, I added a separate set of bass and treble controls for the overdrive channel, so that you can set the pre-EQ for the channels independently because a good clean setting will sound quite bad for the overdrive channel and vice versa.

I removed the reverb and tremolo and put in a tube-buffered FX loop instead.
It's still running the 12AT7 phase inverter and 6L6 GC power tubes.
I also added NFB and presence controls, which can change the sound and feel quite a lot.
Comparing it to my rebuilt 2203 prototype via the fx loops, it's really interesting to hear how different the Fender power amp sounds. It's definitely smoother and softer, which adds a really fun chewiness to the overdrive.

I tried the amp at rehearsal last week through my 80s 1960BV cab and it was awesome at high volumes.

Here's a redacted gut shot for y'all haha.
I know, the board is gunked like crazy...

And here's a video of the amp through my standard Greenback setup with two Strats and a Les Paul + a sneak peek at my upcoming Ozzy cover that I recorded with the amp.

Wow, that sounds great! Real close to the sound in my head!

I always wanted one of those set neck CS reverse head Strats! Hard to find.

Sounds badass, very similar to my boosted Bassman, yours sounds thicker. You are doing some badass stuff!

Thanks! Yeah, I saw that guitar pop up on eBay and just had to get it. I didn't even know that those existed lol

Thank you!

When you play those neck Slash type
micro-intervals.
I TOTALLY get why you display that.
Your amps have that ‘wind-up juicy vibe & feel’
-followed by the attack.
You also display that very well with the bridge
pickup also with those mid-section cuts’ on the guitar neck.
Those ‘wind-up little intervals are like slingshots,
-I feel ya man!!!

Super inspiring at any second,
-like a miner who loves gold.
That magic can go the Jerry Cantrell “moody juicy”
also, if you got the chops.

I remember over a year ago mentioning
you modifying a Bassman and going against
all grains.
Keep creating my man!!!

Sounds great. Really cool tones!! Well done!! Modded fenders can be killer.
