So we've been trying to wrap up mixing an album that the past members have been working on for a while and I've been doing most of the mixing. I didn't do ANY of the original tracking so I've only been mixing what I was given (or "polishing a turd" as I like to call it). The drums were the only thing that were decently recorded. The guitar tones suck and 75% of the vocals are clipped (so ignore those). We plan on re-tracking the vocals but the guitars we aren't going to mess with. Not too terrible for a garage studio, but we plan on doing much better this next time around (borrowing a friends Focusrite/Apogee/Avid/ProTools rig)

Not that it matters, but this is rigtalk so here's the gear list ;)
'81 LPC Silverburst into a 3ch Triple Rec and 1960a cab
PRS CU22 into a Rev Green Uber and Bogner Cab (GB's x V30's)

Mackie mixer, ECHO Layla, Cubase 5

Any comments or suggestions for "polishing the turd" would be appreciated!

I'll probably throw another song or two up soon, but here's one: https://soundcloud.com/alxdgr8/insecurit ... 013-master

Sounds good! Digging the Tool sound. Kick & snare feel a little distant to my taste though.

Pretty cool tune!! I think the drums could use some phattening up, maybe adding some room to them which will help sound a little bigger, and the snare needs to come up a bit. I think maybe some efx on the guitar will help them sit in a little better too. I think I hear a little bit of delay, but maybe a different efx, wider stereo delay will help it sit a little better. love the singer.

Probably a good mastering plug on the master to brighten up the overall mix and add some more compression would help too. needs just a bit of presence and maybe bottom end.

sounds good though man, those are all just suggestions so take them as they are..
