Hello All....

I've been fence-sitting on either adding a Herbert (Diezel) or the top shelf 20th Anniversary XTC to my studio/session space. I know ALL about the XTC's tone, had first hand experience with it, love it, but at the time, needed more edge. So I have a VH4S and an UberTJ right now.

QUESTION IS: Does anyone here run an XTC through Celestion Golds and if so, how is it? Pluses? Minuses? Potency? Sonic spectrum? I'm pondering loading either an OS2x12 or a full 4x12 with Celestion Golds just to get into the sweet vintage arena.

Any feedback would be greatly appreciated.

I haven't tried the 20th Anni but I did have some Celestion Gold's in a cab with my 101B, the clean sound was probably the best speaker with the amp but the blue and red channels were a little darker and smoother, they lost some bite. So I sold them a while back IMHO didn't match up well with the XTC. So far Celestion Heritage G12H30 55hZ speakers are the best with the XTC series amps and I have tried alot of speakers, I am using a Classic now with a 4x12 loaded with these speakers.

@nothern: have you tried the celestion golds also in a open back cab? do you play mainly clean or mainly dirty?
I want the best clean sound possible from my XTC, as i am rather a clean guy :) Your post sounds like the golds would be a good way for me to go.

Wow, this one's brought back from the grave

Celestion Golds rock - but VERY good point, they flourish in an open/semi-open back cab design.

Peace,
V.
