Thoughts on the Egnater TourMaster 212 cabinet? Speakers?

Hey guys,

ONe of my cabs is the TM212 cab and I can't seem to find the best approach. Right now I run it semi open back with Celestion G12-65s for originals and covers. We do everything from clean to mean, covers from Led Zep to STP, AIC, to Tool.

Maybe I need to mix speakers to get more balance or close the back off. Nice thing about the semi open back is the spread of the tone.....but I miss some punch. With punch it can depend on where the speakers are in relation to the semi open back. With the Egnater, the speak's are right in the opening.

how new is it?

mine took about 50 hours to get broken in playing my tourmaster amp through it about about half volume on the 25 watt settings on channel 3. it took a good long time, and had some hours on them before i got it too...once they settle in though, they're definitely killer speakers.

well worth keeping in there.

what are you trying to achieve with this cabinet exactly, or whats your goal/angle on changing speakers out of it?

i run my tourmaster combo to a rivera ported q212 with 2 G12K-85's in it, and it's REALLY thick and crushing....the perfect mix for those cl 80's in the tm combo. i run the combo open also, and the ported cab closed. best of both worlds, super easy to setup, and the sound mix and spread is just right.

Yeti,

Looking for something not as crisp and clean as the CL-80s which I actually sold, they were two years old.
I have two G12-65s in there now and thinking about a G12T-75/V30 or G12-65/V30 mix.

I am finidng I don't like high wattage high db speakers like CL-80-s and K-100s. Too squeeky clean. I know V30s have a high db but they don't feel like it...they feel like they are down in the pack with 65s, 75s, and Greenbacks.

Hi guys, have been taking time off from gear discussions, but was playing through a Tourmaster 212X recently and just wanted to post for anyone interested, this cabinet may be the best value on the market for a 212, especially considering quality.

The Egnater TM holds up and is on par with my Bogner, Stone Age and Splawn cabs.

Hey Rich:

Glad to see you back in the mix. Hope you're feeling better.

Even though I might agree with you that the TM212 *might* be the best deal for a decent quality 2x12" cab, I don't agree that it is on par with a Bogner oversized 2x12" cab. In my opinion, the Bogner is a far superior cabinet in terms of build quality and tonality. As with all opinions, YMMV.

Cheers!

Comparing a Bogner 212 to a Marshall 1936 to an Avatar to an Egnater or anything...I think they all sound about the same, assuming the same speakers. Build is fine on all of these.
