After hearing brads new rig...and missing my VH4...I think its almost time to pick up a Herbert...only problem im having is...well finding one...no where seems to have them in stock, buying it new is a last resort as I cant swing the 4K+ at the moment...but..if anyone had any leads on a used one I would be very grateful.

I absolutely love my Herbert. Standing in front of that mofo when the master is on 5 is an out of body experience with my Les Paul with an Afwayu in the bridge, just ridiculous! That's a man's amp.

Could you imagine my rack minus the Herbie... Would not rock nearly as hard. :D

Steve,

What tone are you after?
I mean the Herbert is crazy good amp, but if you are after sound like Tool it might not be the amp for you. It has a LOT of low mids & lows, it sounds really really thick.

I got Tool nailed using the VH4/JCM800 Combo. Haven't dialed in the VH4/Elmwood just yet, but it has so much Marshall in it, that it will take just a little tweaking. Most of my heavy dropped stuff is more along Slipknot Iowa era or Machine Head - Blackening type stuff. So, the heavier gain, but articulated and saturated is what I go for.

Basically though, I would need another amp like a hole in the head. I said no more, but if a Herbie comes along at an "oh shit" price, I would probably fall off the wagon and snatch it up.

Find you an SLO yet?

Steve

The Herbert is more saturated than what you are describing I think. I'm surprised that your VH4 doesn't cover it for you. I think the VH4 cranked about 2-3:00 with Ubercab sounds pretty close to what you are describing.

I too "need another amp like a hole in the head"  . I'm just gonna wait until I find a SLO to the exact specs I'm looking for at a right price, no more impulse GAS purchases for me.

There is a modded SLO 100 on ebay right now. Not sure what spec you are after.
