Hi,

I own an el34 TJ and I kinda succeeded pulling out an ok clean out of it with the depth knob maxed and with the global presence really low(at bedroom volume) but I wondered, did anyone here got any settings to share for a better clean sound on TJ? I just cant make the clean channel sound good without the depth maxed out and than the 2nd channel doesnt sounds really good.

My current settings for 1st channel clean sound:

Depth: Maxed.
Presence: 7 o'clock.
Master Volume: 11 o'clock.

Volume ch1: Maxed.
Presence: 12 o'clock.
Treble: 2 o'clock.
Middle: 11 O'clock.
Bass: Maxed.
Gain: 4 o'clock.

This TJ has the clean mod.

Daniel.

Inhave been using

Depth max
Prescence to taste

Ch vol. Maxed
Presence min
Treble Min
Mid To taste
Bass 1 o clock
Gain ten to eleven o clock

At the time I bought mine new, a couple years back, Bogner was doing a free taper mod to the first channel that allowed for all the gain up top, but lower down, a totally cleaner clean.

Maybe phone Charlie and see if this is still on.

That would nail the problem 100%

Mine allready has the clean mod, it does do a clean sound, just not a good one.

Apologies, I may have missed that rather pertinent point

Power tubes, try the stock KT's, they'll be a little brighter and stiffer in the highs, not as heavy and deep as the EL34's perhaps.

He cannot run 88's if I am not mistaken. He ordered his with 34's and the transformers are different and can't handle the draw of 88's. The TJ doesn't have a great clean. I put an NOS Mazda chrome plate in the clean channel pre slot and it sounds pretty good now. I can't remember my settings though.

Charlie told me the KT88 Twin Jet has the same transformers as the older Ubers.

I sort of remembered the OP saying he received different transformers. Maybe not. Do you still run the EL34's in yours. I have had the GL 77's in for awhile.

Yeah, Winged C's...I run mine with the depth low or off, as I find the amp has plenty of low end.

I found the email from Charlie...he said "the output transformer is the same for both", but the plate voltage may require a lower value resistor for biasing.

Low End? The Uber doesn't have any low end.

Yes, jorg wrote me he'll use the revision blue transformers, I can recheck when I'll be home.

It's weird how I didnt care too much about the clean sounds till I've heard the suhe od100 yesterday, had an amazing clean that I guess the revision blue wont do as well.

I dont know, I just rarely use the 1st channel for distortion tones, I'm very happy with the 2nd channel and use it extensively in my band.

I'd mod it but I live in Israel and sending it to bogner would cost a fortune, not sure how much I'd like someone else deal with the amp.

Jessus, this gear greediness never ends..

Ok, I re-checked the mail from Jorg, now he explained it in a weird way, I guess it was english in a german grammer sense, but he actually said the plate voltage is different, not the transformers.

I dont think I'd like to run 88's because of the "glassy highs" people were talking about, but let's say I would, is it possible? can you change the plate voltage...?

There may be an extra tap or two on the power transformer. My Shiva has them and I believe the Twin Jet as well.

I was talking to Charlie at bogner about the twin jet yesterday. The el34 models ship with a lower voltage tranny. the kt88 models are 630 Volts. He said el34 will work but you'll go through them faster.
