Hi...I was wondering if there is a Mod for the Tourmaster to smooth out the gain on Channels 3 and 4? After playing the OD channel of the Renegade at a store, I realized I like the smoother response of The Renegade's lead channel..The Tourmaster is so versatile for my Blues power trio that I'm spoiled having those 4 great channels....Would just lke channels 3 and 4 a bit smoother maybe with a few less highs...Is this possible?? Thankx...Rod

Hi Rod- It's your alter-ego again!

I find I have to really work the EQ on the Tourmaster. I certainly have to re-adjust it with different guitars, and often in different rooms. I can't just set it and leave it.

I just repleced the pre-amp tubes and that really juiced the sounds out of it! I will be posting some clips in a few days.

You might want to try those routes before you went modding the amp, although I am kind of curious as to the answer as well.

Yes, the lead channel of the Renegade is something else!!..but I love the 4 channels...at any rate, as Len suggested, I just replaced my preamp tubes as well...I put in all JJ Ecc83 High gainers from Doug's tubes....I put them in V1,2,3 and V4, and V8...the phase inverter....the other sockets are for reverb and FX ect....This made a BIG difference....much smoother sounding...I really like the JJ's, and they work well in the Tourmasters....I'm also having the M mod done..mine was an original, and Bob for DST amps is also putting a small resistor across the phase inverter to lower the overrall treble of the amp a bit....[He's been doing this mod on Marshalls for 15 years]....I'll let you know how it turns out....Have any of you guys put different power tubes in this amp??

No I have not changed tubes, def thought about it though because I have never really liked Groove Tubes, so it made a BIG diff or a little diff??

grooves tubes are just tested tested tubes from another maker and re-labeled-personally I hate jj tubes-especially the 83 -the 803 is ok , try a tung-sol- use a sovtek lps in the phase inverter

I put in new power tubes about 8 months ago, but they were just your basic Groove Tubes. I didn't think it made as much difference as the preamp tubes did. I will probably put in new power tubes soon, but I will probably try Sovteks or Tung Sols or something.

It seems to me that the Tourmaster is tough on tubes. Does anyone else have that impression? If it is correct, why?

Thanks!

I think the original tubes that were in our amps were JJ's...via Groove tubes...I personally think that Groove Tubes method of tube testing isn't as critical as some other outfits I've dealt with...I like Euro tubes and Doug's Tubes...Groove Tubes have givin me nothing but trouble over the past 5 years....Not power tubes, but their pre amp tube selections
