They are good pickups but nothing magic about them IMO. Last I saw them they were about $600 each and they are easily worth 1/6 that. :D

Anybody ever use these for high gain?

This is not what they're for, man. These are for low gain/clean sounds where you want to hear a lot of the pickup/wood. If you're going to go high gain there are a lot cheaper pickups out there that work just as well.

Look at Wizz or BKP Black Dogs for seriously half the price used.

I have, a H450 neck model in the bridge position so its going to be particularly low output and uncompressed. They used to be reasonably priced. Anyway, they have an old school PAF hollow honk that is way more authentic to a 50's Gibson PAF than any offering by Duncan or Dimarzio (I like Duncans, not bashing them). They nail those old tones from classic recordings to a T. If you can put up a bit more fight with these, due to their open lack of compression, they perform very well with high gain.

I have. I though the Voodoo PAF pickups sounded better, so I never bought the Holmes. I should have bought the Holmes pickups and cashed out. lol

love the pickup but it doesn't work in every situation like metal

i use 450 in the bridge too and prefer the classic tone and note definition to hotter output/compressed gain because playing fast sloppy shred isn't as important to me as it used to be and chug is not my cup of tea :D
