Hi all
Just curious if any of u run your xtc on class A and why. How do u find the tone and what kinda qualities do u get. Just wondering if it's worth having the class a/ab installed on mine.
Can u get close to the class a sound in the old mode?
Thanks

I don't use it. The Xtc is an amp that likes to be run at full power when I'm playing it. The master works great.

I went with the A/B switch on my 20thA, for puritan reasons, and the fact I could.

Sounds differences are noticeable through the channel range, more so as the volumes move up. Class A can be squishier, if you're looking for that phat, rounded, thick, smokey blues tone; or a simple, vintagey clean.

Do I use it much? No. I stick with AB on it as it's louder, punchier, and seems to saturate with more oomph.

Is it worth the extra coin? That's entirely up to you. If I didn't get it on my 20thA, I'd wish I did just to hear what it sounded like. Do I make as much use of it as I anticipated? No.

I would if I had it. My 2nd XTC had Class A and I used it many times. I'm trying to get someone/anybody to post close up detailed pics of the wiring so I can share a "how to" with others. I have pics but I can't make out the wiring.

Exactly.

I have it and only use it for a real vintage Gibson Type Class A with a Les Paul. Sweet, but not by much over 1/2 power and Old settings.

I got it done and it's freaking amazing! BTW I'm not into metal type music

I think its a cool feature. I like it on the clean channel the most. It's cool in Plexi mode too.

It does sound nice on my 20th xtc..I like it..nice option to have.

Do the ohms selector in the Head need to be switched while changing between A and AB operation or during Half Power use in the XTC?
