Took a little drive up to the mother ship and dropped off my 2:100 for repair. I cooked something. They said it was a blown screen resistor and some carbon scoring. A hundred buck labor and $2.50 in parts. One week turn around time.

Got it back last week. Goodness, what a difference a properly working amp makes. Everything sounds brighter, clearer and dryer. Approaching VHT dryness and clairity.

Thought I'd share.

Yikes. $100 to change one simple part...

I look at it as $85 bucks of it was to troubleshoot the problem.

Kinda the same for my work. 95% of the time on a service call is find out what the 5 minute fix is.

I'm not trippin', it was worth every penny.

Where is the Mesa factory?? I'm having minor issues with my 2:100 as well and would like to have it looked at. Although I could take it to Savagte Audio I suppose since it's only about 20-30 minutes away.

which kind of issues you 2:100 have?

Yea, they're in Petaluma. I halfheartedly tried to find them last year when I was visiting. Kind of a big hicktown, Petaluma is. It's about 40 minutes north of San Francisco. Yeeeehaaaaaaa!!!!

Yeah, the factory is in Petaluma... about and hour north of me.

After a little bit of playing it starts to make a really high pitched hum, will go away, then come back stronger and longe,r go away again, and then come back and stay. If I switch it to standby for about 30 seconds and turn it back on, it'll stop doing it.

Also when I don't have MODERN on it makes a really low-frequency hum that's just annoying as fuck.

Another thing is side B works, but it's 15x noisier than side A and isn't as loud or good sounding. Basically it's 100% unusable.

Wow. that's seriously broken. I assume you have tried changing the tubes...

I would like to, but I don't have 150 to throw down on new tubes.

Actually, I was thinking the three preamp tubes. That's a tad cheaper.

If it helps you get it fixed, you could ship it to me and I can take it to the factory for you. I assume your local repair shop is Mesa authorized though. If not, let me know if I can help.

Perhaps, but I think I would rather just take it to Savage Audio. I've never heard anything bad about them and a few people who have taken their gear down there to be repaired came out just fine. I'm sure they are authorized, but they do use only brand-name parts, if they can't get them, they use the best they can find. I will definately keep this option in mind though thanks for the offer.

Yeah, after I posted, I thought... "duh, for the same money, he could send it directly to Mesa."

Best of luck. once you get that baby fixed, you are going to have a new love in your life. For me, I think the only power amp that might de-throne the 2:100 would be a Strategy 400 or 500 or VHT 2150. Thoise damn KT88s are haunting my dreams.

Yeah I was thinking of selling my 2:100 and going with a head since i won't have money for a full rack for quite some time, but I really do love it with MODERN on, it makes sverything sound 100x better. I'm just borrowing someones jMP-1 for right now, sounds lame without MODERN, but with it on, it's fucking killer. Been thinking about a VHT GP3 or maybe a Rocktron VooduValve or Prophesy II.

Sexy visions, man. I think we posted about the "modern" switch thing before. I used a Digitech 2120 into the 2:100 in "modern" mode, and it was sick. Not quite as sick as the Recto pre + G Major... but sick.

Also, I thougth about going back to my 5150... until I did the A/B thing. Hands down, the Recto rack rig pwned the 5150. It would have to be one special head to get into the same territory. But, if you have no funds to build a rack... and selling the 2:100 is a nescessity to get the head... you gotta do what you gotta do.

Ya but the only heads I have interest in cost 2k+. Voodoo Witchdoctor (which won't come for another 6 months to a year) Diamond Spec Ops, or a Krank Revolution.
