Torpedo Cab placement

Hi all,

I'm new here, and I would really like to know what position my newly acquired Torpedo Cab should take with respect to my guitar rig set-up.
I've been hearing some conflicting reports - as I don't have a guitar amp, and am using a PA system.
I have a pedal board with the usual - Compressor - OD's/Dist - Harmony - Delay and Reverb units...
I have also just bought a Blackstar HT Dual Preamp stomp box.
So, the Blackstar manual says to place the Preamp at the start of the chain and the T/Cab manual I think states TC should be last in the pedal line. This sounds logical - but is that where most would put these units that have the same sort of set-up as me that would give the best sound performance?

The Torpedo CAB can be anywhere after the last tone shaper/pre-amp/ distortion/overdrive/compressor. It is often easiest to place it last however if it placed before the stereo effects, you can then feed a stereo signal to FOH.

In your case, you should place any compressors, overdrive/distortions, wahs etc. before the Blackstar to get the most out of it. A harmonizer should also probably be pre distortion for best tracking but try it both ways. I'd place the Torpedo after the Blackstar and the Torpedo feeds delay and reverb

Hi Andy,
Thank you very much for your reply...
Just one thing - is the modulation effects placement issue to do with whether it's stereo or mono? I'd prefer to have the TC at the end (for a much simpler set up), but don't want to jeopardise the quality of sound. I don't use any modulation effect in stereo, so in that case, (would I feed a stereo signal to the FOH simply from the Modulation outputs?) - my mono signal from the Delay/Reverb would not loose tone if placed before the T/Cab..?
Cheers!

One needs to think of the CAB as a speaker and microphone.

So if you want the sound of an amp in the studio, mic'd and then processed on the board with chorus, delay and reverb, place the CAB before the mod effects

If you want the sound of the amp running effects and then mic'd, place the CAB last

no harm in trying both ways to see what you like.

Again thanks Andy - appreciate it immensely..!

I shall do just that - try the different set-ups and see what I come up with. My main use is up-front live gigs and I want the simple and best way of achieving that without losing
any quality. I would never visualise myself in a studio/mix scenario - but then, I guess there is no harm in trying. It would just mean an extensive rearrangement/rebuild of my P/board and
perhaps more cost.
Still, I guess the final decider will be what tone wins me over - then I will have to choose. It all adds up to fun I would suggest..!
Many thanks,
Paul.

Hi guillaume,

Thanks for your response - and for clearing things up.
I'll have an extensive play, and let my ears do the deciding...
Cheers to you all...
Paul.
