Hi,

Not very often I take time to write on forums, though I enjoy reading many. I actually ended up buying a Torpedo Live after reading a discussion in the Kemper forum regarding profiling through a Torpedo Live. The idea of a cab sim that uses impulses responses as a cab sim instead of the typical analog ones got my attention, as I had not head about Two Notes before. Anyway, it sounds great. I use it mainly when I play at home, and when I record I use the raw digital out with WOS. This is a very flexible solution for me as I tend to tweak and tweak, this is probably also why I own too much guitar stuff and tried a lot of load boxes over the years.
I also feel that the more I learn the less gear I use, and I still have a way to go, but the amp into the Live with a touch of reverb afterwards leaves my playing for hours. :)

This is a very cool product and I hope you continue "improving" this concept. The only thing I am missing now is a midi thru. ;)

I was testing my pedal board and amp, playing with the Strymon Mobius yesterday (all through the Live and WOS) looking for a rotary and clean sound combination. I happened to record it (it all ended up as an ambient weird thing), all guitars through Live and WOS. This was only a 2-3 hour thing with first takes, and will probably never be completed, so it is not perfect.

Thank you Torstein for this feedback. ;)

Nice clean tone and playing! I am not totally fond of the lead tone (too much distortion for me), what kind of amp did you use?

Well, you have it on the VB-101. ;)

Hi,

Thank you!, I am using a Divided by 13 FTR 37. It is totally awesome when I can play loud, which is not at home, but also works great through the Live.
I used an Ecstasy blue pedal with boost in front for the lead. The clean tones only had a touch of boost.
When it comes to good lead tones in the mix, and good rhythm tones for that matter, I still see that as an art I've not really mastered. I have a tendency to use too much gain when using loadboxes, but it is really the perceived loudness and less gain that is the problem. (I believe, and depending on style.)

Be sure to load the PrimeA and PrimeB cabinet profiles with the FTR37. These are both /13 2x12 profiles, PrimeA is the Anniversary G12H side while Prime B is the Celestion Blue. If you can run both (either re tracking using the Live or using the PI-101 or VB-101) at the same time, the effect is uncanny

Oh, it's just my humble opinion, I have no intention to tell what's good or bad sounding (too risky ^^).

Hi again,

I am not going to start adding posts with lots of music, but just wanted to follow-up this thread. There has been some threads that discuss using the power amp simulation even when using real amps. I believe this is all related to the impedance (different resistance for frequencies), and that amps react differently to the load. I am lucky enough to own several good amps, and for me it seems that some amps like the Mark V for example reacts very similar to the Live as a speaker (i.e. V30), but the /13 FTR37 slightly different. (not bad, just different). What seems to beef this is up is to enable the Power Amp simulation with no volume boost. For me it seems to be adding a bit of the feel that I like.

Anyway, after many months I am still playing the the Live every day. :)
I used the FTR37 and a Bogner Goldfinger with the Prime A&B mixed to mimic my setup at home as suggested by sysexguy.

Thank you Torsteinko for this addon to your original review. It is always interesting to read the opinion of a user after several months.

You are right about the fact that amplifiers reacts differently, depending on the load. Actually it depends as well on how the power amp stage of the amp is designed.

But I think that adding another power amp stage in the sound is more a matter of tonal possibilities, for example for someone who wants to have this cranked power tone without actually cranking his amp output volume.

I sold my Kemper to get a Torpedo Live. I haven't looked back since. If you love the sound out of your amplifier, then this is a fantastic solution to use both live and in the studio. So happy with it!

:)
