I just picked up a new Tourmaster 4100 head...love it so far with the exception of the weight, and I have discovered some noise when turning the gain pot on the clean channel 1...I get a little on the gain pot on channel 2 as well if the amp is loud. Can anyone tell me if this is normal...I am trying to figure out if I should exchange it or not.

If it is just noise when turning the pot it is probably just a little dust in there- nothing that a little air spray wouldn't fix. You can get that kind of thing at Radio Shack. Sometimes even just turning the thing a few times will clear it out. If it is that, that is nothing faulty with anything and is no reason to return the amp.

If that doesn't do it, you can always try swapping the preamp tubes for channels 1 and 2 and see what that does. But I'm betting on just a little dust in there- a minor issue.

Tried that already...could you try your amp...turn master volume to about noon and channel volume to about 2, go to channel one and turn the gain knob...do you hear noise, try channel two as well...I hear it on both with the gain knob...

There's some noise but it sounds like the normal noise form lights and pickups and things. Not sure it is what you are describing.

Those are low gain channels. You crank the gain up past about noon and it will generate some noise.

You might go into GC and try another one and see if it does it. Remember, at a store like that the lights and stuff generate a lot of noise.

You might contact Egnater as well.

I am talking about a static type noise associated with turning the knob, not the increased hiss as the gain goes up. I sent Egnater an email, will see what they say...

I'm still betting on dirt, then. Maybe a bad connection of some sort. Try another one just to compare. Change your volume settings and see if it continues.

Well I heard back from Egnater, they thought it might be a dirty pot and suggested some electronics cleaner...tried that and still the same...looks like I will exchange...

Yeah, what the hell, get another one. You might want to try it before you walk out of the store with it- Make sure it isn't doing the same thing.
