Let me start by saying that I love this amp. Great tube tones and flexibility at a great price. Thank you Egnater.

Is the Record Out a balanced TRS output? I've tried quality TS and TRS cables and I'm still getting tons of buzz and noise from this output.

Can anyone else comment on their experiences with the simulated out?

Thanks,

Rob

Haven't tried the recording out, but possiblly it could be a ground loop?

All gear is using the same AC power strip. I had a ground loop issue with my buddy's bass rig recording out. After connecting it to the same power strip, the hum was gone. I'll keep troubleshooting the 4100 and post the results.

In the mean time, does anyone know if the recording output of the 4100 is balanced?

Thanks

I also got a ton of noise out of the record out of my 4212. I haven't really tried anything with it, but I am curious about this as well.

In all the years I have been recording I have yet to get any real usable main tones from a preamp direct out on guitar rigs. Bass amps are another thing and designed more for this. However, as a filler tone you can usually get rid of the buzz from a 1/4 direct by going into a DI box that changes the impedance over to the XLR level and then send that to a good pre-amp into your recording studio.

Nine times out of ten that will fix your buzz. Even if the 1/4 jack is a balanced the transformers in a DI box seem to cause the buzz to dissappear. I would try that first but to tell you the truth nothing compares to the Eggy moving real air through a speaker for your main bed tracks and solo's.

For a killer recording a DI from the pre-amp would never be anything more than an additional track to mix in under the main tone of that amp breathing naturally through the speakers. The Eggy's sound so good with a simple sm57 in front of them it is just killer. Add and X/Y setup with an SM57 and some other condensor mic like an AT3030 or the likes and wow will that thing track like a monster for you.

Blend in the DI solution to taste and it will be a freaking wall of guitar that will be hard to beat. Hope this helps anyone tracking guitar.

Thanks for the help Hack...

I do mic my cab with a 57 and I'm happy with that tone, but the direct out would help with recording live "scratch" tracks with my drummer in the small basement area that we jam in...

I'm going to try the DI box route when I get home tonight. I'll post my findings!

Thanks again!

Totally agree man. All of my tones have been w/ 1 or 2 SM57s. And I love the tone I'm getting. There's something to be said for the amp, when all ya need is SM57!

I'm not sure, but I don't think this is direct out of the preamp. I remember reading something in the manual about it. It may have something to do with the speaker simulation.

Yes, it is definitely a simulated cabinet output.

I understand that. I am not sure that it is direct out of the pre-amp. I seem to remember something else from either the manual or one of the youtube videos. It escapes me right now.

it is not out of the preamp. it is an attenuated line out from the poweramp with a filter... minus the filter it "sees" the same thing as the speakers. I definalty get power amp distrotions with it.

That said. prefer sm57s anyday :)
