I bought a Tourmaster 4100 head a month or so ago. I really like it. I have read some great reviews on it on harmony central and some reviews really were negative. I didn't believe the bad reviews because they didn't make sense. I am very critical and I have been involved in electronics for years and I find the Egnater amp to be very well built and it uses very high quality parts so I think some people just don't know what they are talking about. The sound of the Egnater is great. I guess I am a gain freak because have the gain on the two overdrive channels usually at 1 o'clock to three o'clock and have tried it up full. Even at about 1 o'clock I sometimes get squeal on various guitars with different pick ups which are usually potted fairly well and I try to be away from my amp. Are you coming out with a mu metal shield for the toroidal transformer ? I have used Gibson 498T pick ups ( I know they tend to squeal ) I have tried Seymour Duncan JB. Maybe I should get Motorcity pick ups or Bare Knuckle pick up's. I play Rock like Journey etc. Maybe I should check with http://www.dougstubes.com.

OK, so I'm a hack. I have been playing since the 1960s and I have worked in repairs for a high Retail HI Fi store and in sales and repairs for a Guitar store. I have much equipment and I have been a professional musican who played with a CBS recording artist and I have been playing for over twenty years. Juset because I send time playing instead of being on Forums all the time doesn't mean that I am a HACK.

Haha, we all gotta start somewhere. I too was a plain ol "hack" when I started out here at rig talk. It's all good. ;)

As far as the squealing goes, have you tried different preamp tubes? Do you think you might have a microphonic tube? Perhaps at a reasonable volume, tap each preamp tube to see if one makes noise?

I'd try something like that before I try swapping pickups. If theyre potted duncans, you should be fine...

Yes, that is the most logical thing to do is to check for microphonics by tapping the tubes and swapping the tubes one by one. I do have some brand new high quality 12AX7 type tubes that I can try. I just know that on a Soldano SLO it is less likely to squeal but I do get squeal on a Traynor Custom Special 100, Line 6 Bogner 100 head, Hughes & Kettner Switchblade head and my Mesa Engineering Express 5/50 when I am running high gain almost with any guitar. That is the nature of the beast. I have heard a demo online of an Elmwood head with the exact overdrive sound I want and there is no Feedback squeal. I helps to be ten or more feet away from the amp if possible

I've heard that Electro Harmonix EH12AX7s are great for quieting down microphonics and feedback... YMMV, but the slightly subdued high end and short plate structure lead me to believe that this would be true.
